When was Gasquets peak fitness level?

Ever since being back from the coke Ban he has never looked very fit out there on court, always perspiring. He had a bad record leading 2 sets to 0 always, but I dont think fitness was always to blame.

When was he at his fittest?

Coming back from 2 0 sets at Wimbledon 2007 vs Roddick was an anomoly, perhaps it was then?

"I did not play my best tennis, no? And..that is what enable him to win..to win this match no? "

- Rafael Nadal, ever so "humble", - press conference after shock 4 set loss to Robeen Soderling @ 2009 French Open 4th round.

Gasquet doesn't seem that out of shape these days anyway, despite what 2003 says. it's possible he doesn't train enough to hone in on his game but he moves around the court fine.

always been in the head for Gasquet, his problems, not his body

Just because Gasquet is talented doesn't mean his only problem is his head. He simply doesn't possess the physique required for the level everyone expects him to be. Everyone who has watched him play Nadal and Ferrer would see that he virtually has no chance of winning because he is too physically weak to cope with their games. Too short and not enough upper body strength. He doesn't stand 2 metres behind the baseline for fun, he doesn't have the physical ability to consistently take balls at their top of the bounce. By standing further back it allows the ball to drop to the strike zone he is comfortable with (around waist height). It doesn't help he has fundamental issues with his technical game, such as a terrible rally forehand and a mediocre serve. His desire and fighting spirit are questionable at times as well.

Re: When was Gasquets peak fitness level?

He is capable of taking the ball on the rise, at least on his backhand-side, where his lack of physique is more than compensated by his technique. His forehand is another issue, but it's not THAT bad.
