Roland Garros R1: Paire def. Ramos 7-6(3) 6-4 6-7(5) 6-3

Very entertaining match. Benoit made 81 UEs and served at only 45%. However he broke serve 10 times and totally dictated play throughout the match and was the clear better player. Dropshot Ramos a ton and came to net a lot to close off points, had 69 winners with the over eighty errors. Some amazing BH winners from all over the court and off return and his serve did bail him out several times in the match, served at 58% in the fourth set which helped him get through in the end.

Ramos DFd 10 times as a result of the pressure Benoit was putting on his second serve. Albert just wasn't much of a factor today, it was all about Benoit, in the end Ramos started to cramp, but he couldn't do much. Paire hit him off the court. Benoit had plenty of chances to win much easier, served for the first set, up a break twice in the third, had two breaks in the fourth set, but finally managed to come through. Awesome win for him against someone he had never beaten.

Flashy winner to end

Paire's misses were atrocious though

Too much comedy in this match, the guy can brainless ballbash with the best of them and then hit some sublime dropshots.

Unlike Troicki and Bellucco, this had some good moments among the nonsense.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

The match was all on Paire's racket, Ramos played very scared and passive tennis today imo. Paire never really gave him good looks though, he was so tough to predict out there. Paire was just trying to hand Ramos that 3rd set and early in the 4th he looked out of confidence but Ramos just wasn't anywhere near his best today

Way to go, Benoît. Didn't even need to be at his best to beat Ramos, who has no business being in the top 50.

Pathetic from Ramos, wasted soooo many chances in this match. Could have won it in three...

Words don't truly describe just how hilarious that match was. And it also produced the greatest point in the history of tennis which included about 6 slice forehands in a row from Paire - one of which was a (great) dropshot with Ramos on the service line - then Paire chased down a lob and hit another forehand "squash shot" off it from the deuce corner, before running around his forehand on the next ball to hit an inside-in backhand winner from the deuce tramlines.

Legend of our game.

Paire is probably the only guy who is running around his forehand to hit DTL backhand winner

It's kind of scary to imagine how good Paire could be if he cut his unforced errors numbers to anything ressembling pro tennis player levels. Maybe even hit more than 45% first serve from time to time.

Get real. Benoit was up a break every set and up multiple breaks a few times. Benoit was the way better player.

Benoit was definitely a better player and dictated almost every point. However his forehand is really his weakest weapon, just the forehand of average challenger level player, extremely inconsistent.
