Roland Garros R1: Llodra def. Garcia-Lopez 7-6(5) 6-2 3-6 6-3

Very good match overall from Mika. The scoreline doesn't really tell the story, as he was the clear better player by quite a wide margin. GGL didn't serve well, hit double digit double faults, and it cost him big time. Mika volleyed well and used his chip and charge effectively, but also returned very well off second serves, with several return winners, hit some great smashes.

Saved 0-40 the final game where he got a bit tight, overall he did serve well, and showed a lot of positive energy at the end and played five great points to finish it off. Good performance from Mika.

Great tennis from Mika, had a few brainfarts in the 3rd but apart from that he was clearly the superior player

Some beautiful points and court-craft here

I love all aspects of TENNIS.

Murray - The Tactician
Nalbandian - The Ballstriker
Llodra - The S/V

Two of most enjoyable players to watch on the tour with pretty distinct game-styles battling it out here. I wish I could have seen this match.

Does not understand why so many people say that.
Llodra is not a clown on clay, most claycourts are fast like hell (Madrid, Rome,Paris) and this suites his game.
Maybe he has a chance against Berdych in next round, but he has to be more concentrated, last service game was from 0*-40 down...

I wouldn't say they 'suit' his game, but the slowness helps his groundstrokes greatly, and Mika is great at using the stop-volley, which is very effective on clay.

But most people do not understand that you can not compare a claycourt in Madrid, Rome (both Masters) or Paris (Slam) with a claycourt on a South American Challenger on Clay. This clay is clay, yes, but fast as hell, you can see it yesterday and today and a guy like Llodra can play on every surface with his game style.

Yes, also people too often assume S/V players are by their nature ill-suited to clay. Guys like Henman and Llodra who rely on great touch and court-craft can actually be very successful on the slower surface, remember Henman's run to the RG semi. Llodra isn't beating any top guy here but he could definitely get some good wins and maybe reach the fourth round etc.

I love all aspects of TENNIS.

Great to see, I thought Llodra was clearly the better player out there. Glad to see him win, he was crafty as ever and the serve was clicking at times
