Roland Garros R1: Mahut def. Roddick 6-3 6-3 4-6 6-2
Just not a good enough performance from A-Rod. What a way for Mahut to end it, with a BH DTL return winner. A-Rod broken seven times in the match. Nicolas was inconsistent but when he was on, he was the clear better player, dominant in rallies, hit several clean winners, with good volleying and net approaches. Roddick started showing some spirit from the middle of the third set to the start of the fourth, getting a break lead to start set four, but lost six of the last seven games.
A-Rod didn't show a ton of fight at the end, and the first couple of sets, this clay season could have been used for him to gain a rhythm with his game, but he didn't show any commitment this clay season. Where he goes from here is up in the air. What's clear is being passive is not going to get him anywhere on any surface.
