Re: Is Gael Monfils the dumbest tennis professional in history?

Monfils was injured going into Nice and hurt himself more playing Nice. He had already said he was having knee/ankle issues in Rome. At the end of the day, when you already know you're hurting, and Roland Garros is around the corner, you take the time necessary to rehab the injury. He didn't, instead, he played on it. That's stupidity from him and his team.

No, I don't think so. He just has the type of body that gets injured a lot. It's something he has to live with, and he can't just skip match play just to be careful.

That being said, WHY DOES HE HAVE TO GET INJURED SOOO MUCH?!! I was looking forward to seeing him at the French.

This.

Having said that, he certainly makes sometimes strange decisions, such as playing Montpellier before DC. But he certainly felt good at that time, besides, I remember having read somewhere at he digests jet lags much better than many others.

even in a mug era like ours, monfils would stand no chance of getting to the top 5

i'm always surprised at how people here overrate that guy's talent. his offensive game is highly limited. same could be said about his variety.

as for the poll question, the correct answer is "No".

He strikes me as quite dumb given some of the things he does in matches, yes. I don't know what circumstances might have influenced him to take the wildcard though. Money can talk, or maybe he underestimated his fitness, I've done that myself.

Not just that but he's dumb for being such a physically robust individual and still playing like a pusher most of the time .

that's true, there is no good excuse for Monfil's lack of aggression on the court. it's like he's afraid to take risks, bravery is the problem. it's weird to be associating strongly the trait bravery with this sport but obviously it is a huge part of it and with it Gael would be able to dominate players and have much more success.

have you ever seen a player who has such talent but does not seem to comprehend how to channel it in matches or how to schedule himself/behave outside of tennis? he's dumb in matches and out, and what makes him even more dumb is he messes up over and over and over again despite having a team that is payed to remind him constantly how to not screw up.

thats pretty friggan dumb

even if he was great in managing his career and making the right decisions, he would be a top ten player at the most so there is no need for all this drama really.
