2009 would be better without Roddick

Re: Best "Year end top 10" from the last 5 years?

Actually i would love to see poll which season had worst top 10 and i bet it is 2010, when Murray by little margint only had more points than Soderling had crap year, Djokovic´s worst point-wise season too with DF´s like WTA girls and Roger great post-USO and AO-Doha, but loosing in EStoril or Halle to Hewitt Delpo and Davy out after great 2009 and Roddick radically declining - 2010 by far worst top 10- even 2011 was better at least point-wise and competition wise - besides Nole of course.

2009 best of a poor lot.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Best "Year end top 10" from the last 5 years?

Replace Robredo with Del Potro, Soderling, or Blake and you have a near perfect 2007.
Ferrer deserves to be in the top 10 but not with many of the flukes of 2010/2011
Nalbandian should be up there as well.

Gulbis Ferrer Nishikori
Isner Nadal Dimitrov Istomin Wawrinka B. Baker

Berdych Monaco Granollers Leo-Mayer Troicki Roger-Vasselin Lu Paire

Re: Best "Year end top 10" from the last 5 years?

For me in order from best to worst:

1.) 2009.
2.) 2008.
3.) 2007.
4.) 2010.
5.) 2011.

Fan list: Cilic, Federer, Coric

P.S. Watch out for Donna Vekic and Borna Coric, 2020. Hopman cup winners. - posted in 2011, let's see if it happens

Re: Best "Year end top 10" from the last 5 years?

2009 had a very solid top10. A great year of tennis. Dunno why Roddick gets blamed for dragging it down. He was pretty good that season. Wimbledon hello?

The WTF is cool because the top fight it out there and you get a good look at the year-end talent. 2009 showed the best quality of tennis in a long time. Davydenko on fire, Nadal taken to school 0-3. Delpo and Soderling duking it out in epic style in SF. Spectacular WTF

Re: Best "Year end top 10" from the last 5 years?

2009 w/o doubt. In recent memory, the best tennis year. In fact the best tennis year since 2005.
3 different slam winners at the Majors all of which made some great stories including Rafa's herculean SF-F effort in Australia, Roger's heroic "down but never out" run at the French, Andy's heartbreak and Roger's "Destiny" triumph at Wimbledon and Delpo's stunning breakthrough at Flushing Meadows, Soderling breaking through at the slam level, a great WTF with Davydenko finally winning a deserved big title The top 10 says everything. Roger, Rafa, Novak and Andy of course were there, but the great performances of Soda, Delpo, Verdasco, Roddick that year made it so memorable. All in all, a great year for the sport where basically all of the top 10 guys did something very memorable at the big stage.

Re: Best "Year end top 10" from the last 5 years?

2009 then 2008 and 2007.

Del Potro and Davydenko were great in 2009,

Roddick, Söderling, Verdasco also made a great year.

2007 was also very good but without Murray in the top-10 there's a big miss.

2009 year-end Top 10 was awesome.

Djokovic, Federer, Tsonga, Del Potro, Wawrinka, Thiem, Nishikori, Raonic

Congrats Djokovic on winning 2016 French Open and becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win 4 consecutive majors!

in the other group as well, Djokovic was out with 2 wins, which happens very seldom in the WTF.

Overall, since what was called the "Masters" in the beginning started, only 6 players were out with 2 wins in the Round Robin ... and 2 of them were in the same year : 2009 !! (also Gottfried 1976, Becker 1991, Rafter 1998, Rusedski 1999) (only one player ever got through with only one win : Nalbandian in 2006, one year after winning)

Davydenko had to beat Söderling to qualify ... if he hadn't done it, he would have been out and not have won the WTF
