Very close, I have to say Olympics by a little bit due to overall prestige is one I'd rather have, but no question olympics is a bit random

could live equally well without both. Olympic Games is big for athletics, swimming, however soccer, basketball are not of the highest quality. tennis? kind of strange concept.

ASI Director-General Gautam Sengupta said the list of India's treasures held abroad was "too long to handle" and there was a need for a "diplomatic and legal campaign" for their restitution from institutions, including the British Museum, the Royal Collection and the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

Couldn't the same be said for WTF? For many players, you only get one or two shots to qualify, let alone win. For guys like Ferrer, Verdasco, Fish, Berdych, Tipsarevic () they have to work really hard to quality and some of them will never get another chance to qualify.

The fact that there is only one Olympics champion every 4 years certainly is a big part of why that happens, no?

Pretty sure everyone remembers who won WTF last year. Just like they remember who won the last Gold Medal.

Bet 99,9 % of the people here know who won which slam in 2008, and there are even four of them to remember. If it's important enough, we'll remember it

maybe because Olympic games follow even people who don't watch sport too often. and people who watch sport maybe don't watch tennis. people who follow tennis day in and day out would remember winners of YESs . maybe not a year but surely a winner and who he beat in the finals

Which is why GS >>>> WTF

What you said is irrelevant to the discussion.

So with remembering slam champions, it's a sign that slams >>> wtf, but with remembering olympic champions, it suddenly isn't?

Again: because you only have one player's name to memorize every 4 years! Whereas with WTF you start confusing years with players who won because it's held 4 times more often. Not difficult to understand.

I know every single slam winner since Wimbledon 2003. I don't know who won 2004 Olympics.

Ofcourse it's a factor, but that doesn't automatically mean it's the only reason.

Slams are also held 4 times more often than the WTF, but no one mixes them up (okay, easier because of different ones, but still). If the WTF was really that much more important as some on here suggest, it really shouldn't matter.

The olympics are talked about way more often, it's been four years and I bet everyone remembers that smash Novak missed. If that was in a WTF semifinal, it wouldn't be remembered as clearly, even months/weeks after.

Seriously why do you think so many people know who won Gold in 2008? Because Rafa won. You think if Wawrinka had won my mother would know who the winner was? Of course she wouldn't, yet she knows Nadal won. You can't possibly be that naive not to realize this.

Re: Sequel: More Prestigious? Olympic Gold vs. Year End Masters?

WTF is much harder to win and dominate against fellow top players and for that reason is >>>>>>>>>>> Olympics in terms of prestige for a professional tennis player and their standing in tennis history. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding.
