Rome R2: Nadal def. Mayer 61 75

Nadal marches on, not a great second set from him though

Re: Rome R2: Nadal def. Mayer 61 75

Mayer played well in the second set, was entertaining.

Nothing more to say though. We saw Nadal destroy Davydenko and then play awful his next match, not saying it'll happen here given the surface but who knows.

Re: Rome R2: Nadal def. Mayer 61 75

Mayer played really well in the second set but it wasn't enough, I think Rafa will have an easier match after this, Marcel is a better match-up for him than Florian (knocks on wood)

Rafael "The Matador of Spin" Nadal
Roger “The Magician of Precision” Federer
Del Potro, Ferrer, Haas, Zeballos

Re: Rome R2: Nadal def. Mayer 61 75

Some great shots from Funky just he's never gonna hurt Nadal on clay. On other surface bad match up for Nadal, on clay a guy who can't go through him or outmanoeuvre him. Just don't know why he returns so poor against Nadal, even in that Shanghai win he was returning badly, eats big servers for dinner and he is so poor against Nadal. Never ending luck for nadal again. Raonic would have been much tougher opponent

So only one active player left (Davydenko) that has a positive H2H with Rafa?

Mayer played good 2nd set, but 1st set was too passive

Nadal is too strong on clay. It wasn't shame this result for Mayer

Re: Rome R2: Nadal def. Mayer 61 75

1st set was complete one-way traffic, outstanding stuff from Rafa especially on his serve. Second set saw more errors creeping into his game, combined with Flo upping his level. Plenty enough to enjoy from Flo there, but the outcome of the match was NID on this surface.
Rather peculiar to see Rafa DF'ing and playing an atrocious low-netted volley when serving it out. Better keep those kind of UEs in the hangar when up against a better player later on in the tournament, Raf.
