Rome R2: Granollers def. [WC] Fognini 6-3 6-4
Pretty hilarious match. Extremely disappointing performance from the Italian overall. You just never know what to expect from Fabio. The way he saved 0-40 at 3-4 and three MPs at 4-5 was awesome to watch, his shotmaking talent and how he went for the winners on such crucial points, but then lost serve to lose the match anyway with easy errors. But that's part of his charm.
Marcel stayed mostly solid, served well, and that's all which was required.
At the end of Federer's first round match at the Australian Open a fawning interviewer asked about his kids and if he had bought coach Stefan Edberg a birthday present - no, by the way, the privilege of knocking up with 'King Roger' was enough of a present apparently.
We should be appreciative of Federer though, because we will never see anything like him again. The fact he can still compete for slams ever after the erosion of his physical skills is really a greater testament to the natural talent he has than the period of time when he was dominating the tour.
