Rome R1: [10] Del Potro def. Llodra 7-5 3-6 6-4

Very entertaining match. Mika had BP at 4 all in the first set and missed a return, if he would have taken it, you have to wonder if JMDP would have stayed for a second set. DelPo was cruising in the third set and had *5-3 30-0, but Mika played four great points in a row to break, aggressive net approaches and a forehand DTL to break. JMDP recovered well and was able to break to win the match, hitting a forehand DTL return and BH cross court winner return back-to-back to win. Some amazing volleys from Mika throughout, touch volleys, wrong-footer volleys, drop volleys. JMDP played his best in the third set, returned well and made things tough for Mika at the net, started dictating more from the baseline. Match had a good energy at the end and Mika's got amazing flair when he's motivated and playing well.

Hopefully JMDP's knee issue isn't serious.

Expected result, though Delpo clowned around.

When I saw Llodra after breaking Delpo at 3-5 to stay in the match complaining to the ump with vulgarity about people moving in the crowd, I knew he would lose.

Why are you focusing on people in the crowd when you should be focusing on your 4-5 service game? You need fucking tunnel vision, nigga.

Delpo too strong at the end.

Yes, he had a niggle with his right knee (I think it was the right knee, I'm horrible with whole left/right deal when it comes to pointing direction out on others) but he took a medical timeout, was flexing it a lot. But it got better as the match went on.

Delpo What a champion.

That said, I hope the knee issue isn't serious. If he can't be 100% to face Youznhy tomorrow, might as well with withdraw and focus on getting fully fit for Roland Garros. No risks should be taken, especially considering his usually fragile physique.

Juan is so unlucky, he can never be fully healthy for a long stretch, it seems. Oh well, I'm happy and relieved he got the US Open title before he had his career-threatening wrist injury. Regardless of what might happen in the future, he can retire a happy man with his Grand Slam title

Vamos Juan!
