Federer will become the World No. 2 if he wins Madrid.

If this happens (he has to get through Djokovic first) if Rafa wins Rome does he get it back?

If Roger stays No. 2 and gets Murray in his half at Roland Garros and Djokovic and Rafa get placed together, what does this mean for Tennis?

Thoughts

2 things:

- Don't talk about "ifs..." because we don't know what's gonna happen. Nadal lost to Verdasco, Federer can lost to Ferrer.

- We talked this topic so many times...

why is everyone so fucking sure Djoker and Rafa would get placed in the same half?and it means shit because Djoker wont beat Nadal at RG

Congrats to Roger Federer on his 17th record breaking GS title and becoming the best player that ever played on grass and breaking number 1 record. You deserve it Roger

Hope it doesn't happen. Would be weird to see a guy who made each of the last 4 Slam finals and won one not being in the top 2. Regardless of rankings, I think few would dispute that Rafa is the second best player at the moment.

Still, I guess Federer would deserve the reward for his great indoor season and post-Australian Open season this year.

If the last few slams has thought us (apart from a couple?) it goes #1 in the draw with #3, & #2 in the draw with #4. It would be interesting, but Rafa would still be the favourite going into the tournament.

I love attacking tennis

FEDERER - DEL POTRO - DIMITROV
Tsonga Haas Nishikori Wawrinka
Cilic Djokovic Gulbis Kyrgios

Hewitt Soderling Roddick

Was wondering this, wow, could definitely happen.

Does Murray have a chance against Fed on clay?

Honestly a Djokovic-Federer final would be the biggest upset in grand slam finals ever. If Nadal beats Djokovic he will cruise easily against Federer to another title. He also deserves to win if he defeats the joker on clay.

No
Murray is a nobody on clay
Clay titles/finals 0
I understand why Pushray skipped Madrid, the courts are too fast for him.

Sure, two of the three best players in the world facing off in a Slam final would be the biggest upset ever

As for the first question, chances are Murray might not even make it to Federer. And no guarantee either that Federer will make it to semis. He's no longer at the stage of his career where he was almost a lock to make semis. But in an eventual match-up, Federer would be clear favorite, just like in every Slam, but even more so at Roland Garros.

Re: Federer will become the World No. 2 if he wins Madrid.

All that really matters is what happens after Rome. Fed's not got an easy route to win here - Ferrer, then potentially Djokovic and then DelPo/Berdych. He has to win and then also do well enough so Nadal doesn't overtake in Rome...

Would be stupid since Nadal's definitely much more a no.2 - so what if he tanked in Asia and at the end of the season - he gave us epic battles in New York and Melbourne and has been a contender for the slams and big titles more than Fed. Guess it's good for Fed for winning Rotterdam, Basel etc. but not a big deal. Fed still has a 50% chance of being in Rafa's half - only good thing for him is he avoids Novak but on clay it's better for him to get Novak than Rafa anyway...

Hopefully he'll lose a lot earlier like he should have during his fluke 2009 run.

For someone who is supposedly the GOAT, his fans sure are desperate.

If Nadal wins Rome, Federer needs to win Madrid and final in Rome to get the no.2 ranking before RG.

tennis would win anyways

Why not?? Ranking are rankings, not perceptions or assumptions. Cold hard facts.
