Delpo is too steady for Mugrin.

Gutless stuff from Mugrin, comically predictable at times. His utter lameness caused Del Potro to fall asleep for a bit, but nothing to fear with Mugrin here.

Del Potro is a conservative high-percentage ballbasher, hence he 'owns' the other big hitters because they go for lines too much.

It's as boring a matchup as Nadull moonballing to Fed's BH.

Good serving from Del Potro and really a very comfortable set. Still hasn't dropped a set during this clay season (Estoril and now Madrid), which is obviously a good sign.

As for Cilic, he must be disappointed. Yes, the match-up is terrible for him; but he played horribly. Didn't even force Del Potro to get out of third gear today. 42% first serves, errors all over the place. He must be disappointed.

Still, glad Cilic has had two good weeks overall, hope he builds on this and returns to where he belongs - the top 10.

Cilic and Delpo were in the same league until their match at the US Open '09. That match set up their different positions in the tennis hierarchy. I'm glad I didn't bother to watch today's encounter with a knowledge of their previous match in the Davis Cup

He played better yesterday and Delpo is a far worse match-up for him than Isner.

Re: Madrid R3: Delpo makes Cilic his bitch one more time 6-2, 6-4

and then will somebody ask why is Cilic so disliked. Delpo who is for somebody a ballbasher wasn't doing anything, he was standing 3 meters behind baseline and just keeping the ball in and other moron was missing left and right. When that moron got a chance to be back in the match he missed 6 BPs in the same game and got back to his missing habits. With all that this same moron was serving at his usual 40%. They say that the serve is the easiest shot to improve in tennis. Or they are wrong or Cilic is the dumbest moron on entire tour. With all that bigger question is how this guy actually has a fans ?

They were never in the same league. Del Potro's strokes have always been more powerful and consistent and he's always been stronger mentally.

Still, the difference isn't as big as the last few matches indicate. Cilic is much better than what's shown. I'm still hopeful that he will fulfill his potential and at least be a regular top 10 player. At the very least.

I am a fan of unforced errors. I appreciate a guy who expands his horizons beyond arbitrary lines drawn on a tennis court.

Edit: Also, do you notice how he arches his back each time he serves? Huge fan of that as well.

delpo it`s a inteligent ballbasher now.....

I mean , after 2009 and his injury seems like he lose confidence with his forehand!!

now he can`t open angles like before
