Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

I'll take 3 consecutive slams in the same calendar year on 3 different surfaces over Olderer's 2007 any day.

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

Fed lost 9 matches in 2007, 1 extra title, TMC and all 4 GS Finals

Nadal 10

winner: Fed 2007

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

That about raps it up.

Start from the top, both have 3 slams and the other Fed leads with a final vs just a QF.
Then the year end goes to Fed.
Then there's titles. 8 titles to 7 in Fed's favor.
And runner-up for titles goes to fed too, 4-2 I believe.

There was some debate back then on how much Fed had declined that year by some pretty knowledgeable people. It was recognized as a rather poor year for Federer at the time.

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

we have a good indicator: ATP Ranking points

has anyone converted in this thread 2007 Federer's points to 2010 points and i missed it ?

or not yet ?

Q. Do you think you would have been able to play as well as you played today, or you think you would have pulled out from the game if it wasn't the Masters Cup final?

ROGER FEDERER: No, Roger Federer doesn't pull out. Otherwise he doesn't walk on court (smiling).

yes it was the year that talk started, but then again any year after 2006 would be a decline.

all 4 GS finals in a season is something Nadal can only dream of achieving even once in his career, let alone 3 times.

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

Fed's 2007 easily- it would be heresy to compare the quality of 2010 with 2007- 2007 AO was superb quality, a pretty good Wimbledon, and a USO where Djokovic played his best tennis.

Plus any year with a risk-taking aggressive dominant player >>>>>> defensive retriever dominant player

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

Let's do it scientifically, just in order to close the pseudo-mouths of some worms like SDG:

Let's convert Federer's 2007 results to 2010 ranking style.

I will need your help since i'm not that good at it:

AO - W - 2000
Dubai - W - 500
IW - R64 - 1 (?)
Miami - R16 - 160 (?)
MC - F - 720
Rome - R3 - 180 (?)
Hamburg - W - 1000
RG - F - 1200
Wimby - W - 2000
Canada - F - 720
Cincy - W - 1000
US - W - 2000
Davis Cup - 15 (?)
Madrid - F - 720
Basel - W - 500
Bercy - R3 - 15 (?)
TMC - W - 1300

Total: at least 12500 points.

Nadal finished 2010 with 12450

So, tards, any conclusions ?

P.S.

Looking in retrospect, 2007 was the best year for Fed in respect to his rivalry with Nadal.
He was 6-8 vs Rafa at the end of that season, and had his number on any surface but clay, beating the spaniard during 2007 on clay, hard and grass.
So, let's not get carried away, rafatards.
Roger's 2007, the year of the start of the decline for the GOAT, was just a bit better than Rafa's 2010, atm his peak year... just accept it and move on!

Q. Do you think you would have been able to play as well as you played today, or you think you would have pulled out from the game if it wasn't the Masters Cup final?

ROGER FEDERER: No, Roger Federer doesn't pull out. Otherwise he doesn't walk on court (smiling).

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

LOL at the idiot who create the topic: Fed's 2007 season is far more superior to Nadal's 2010, but fed's 2004 and 2006 season are far superior to Nadal's 2010!

Why did he choose Federer 2007? scare of the 2004,2005 & 2006 comparision?

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

Don't see the point of the comparison, but even though Nadal had an amazing year, making a lot of people look foolish with his US Open win, Federer doing all that and topping with with a YEC win definitely makes Federer's year the better one.

Err, he did choose 2007 because it's pretty established and out of comparison that Fed's 04-06 seasons cannot be beat by any season Nadal has had yet. 2007 however is close indeed, there is a discussion to make. There would be no discussion if 04-06 were included :S

Re: Poll: Nadals 2010 season vs Federers 2007 season

Nadal's is better - think about it... everyone wrote him off after getting destroyed at WTF '09 and beaten by Murray at this year's AO. No one thought he had chance chance in hell in winning a slam again never mind completing the GS set. But won against all odds to claim his first USO to complete win all 4 slams at 24 years of age. He may not have won this year's WTF to finish the year on a high but there was more pressure for Rafa to deliver whereas Roger was expected to win everything back in '07.
