Madrid R1 : Gimeno-Traver def. Hanescu 7-6(3) 4-6 6-3

DGT was rocking the fluro green headband, thought he stuffed up the first break point at 3-4*, but managed to get it done then and even served it out.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Madrid R1: [Q] Gimeno-Traver def. [Q] Hanescu 7-6(3) 4-6 6-3

Great play from Dani to break in the third set for the first time of the match. Saved four break points to start the third set. Hit some great returns in the third set, and his backhand held up better than usual today, moved better than he usually does as well. This tournament and playing in Spain in general obviously tends to bring the best out of his game. When his serve and forehand are clicking, he's an awesome shotmaker.

Victor didn't play that badly, DGT was simply the one dictating play for most the match. It was on his racquet and he was able to come through in the clutch the first and third sets to win. His reaction after winning showed how much this meant for him. His first ATP victory this season.

His reward for this victory is playing Novak Djokovic on center court tomorrow.

It's been a while since he won the main tour, so the roar was worth it.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Madrid R1 : Gimeno-Traver def. Hanescu 7-6(3) 4-6 6-3

DGT was surprisingly solid today and Hanescu just played safe for the most of the match. Probably not the type of clay court to play usual dirt game on it. More advantageous player was rewarded

Odds on favourite to beat nole now.

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

Even Hanescu looked quite pleased for Dani at the end. DGT is a mental midget most of the time but held it together pretty well today, maybe home crowd a big factor in that. Hopefully he can use this week to gain a bit of momentum going into RG/RG qualies.

Always a good day when Mugnescu loses. This disagreeable clown shouldn't be allowed to pick up a racquet.

DGT will make RG direct more than likely, but you are right hope this can kick off his season now.

Vic is so disappoiting in the last months. Just when you think he has a nice draw and win some matches, he loses them.
