Madrid R1: [Q] Andreev def. Ferrero 6-4 7-6(4)

Igor saved two set points in the second set at *4-5 and 5/5 in the match. Very strong match mentally from Igor, he did a lot of damage with serves out wide on both sides, and his forehand, although he had his customary mishits, was really clicking and moved JCF all around with it. Great serving from Igor on the big points and in the tiebreak.

JCF fought very hard as we all knew he would, proved he still has game left. His movement was quite weak and he made too many forehand errors. But given this is his first match in a while, he showed some decent signs, enough to keep him relevant and keep him in the game past Valencia? We'll see.

Andreev played a great match and i'm happy with him winning.

But I must confess i'm a little sticky, I wanted the Mosquitoe to win this match... Sad for him

Sad. JC didn't play that bad but wasted all his break chances and Andreev served really good.

Andreev needed the win more. JCF is retiring soon anyway. This is a huge confidence-building win for Igor.

It was awesome seeing Andreev back again playing great tennis. Ferrero was very good after such a long absence.

Re: Madrid R1: Andreev def. Ferrero 6-4 7-6(4)

As expected.

Juan Martin Del Potro

But he lost 23 times against you.
's right. We have to also throw into the mix. But I do not think it is currently the decisive factor. But he has achieved in my opinion too much. Maybe this is crucial if I move him even closer after major victories. But 14 or 17 Grand Slam titles is a significant difference. At the present time there is no question that he must be the greater player than me.

Ferrero should really retire soon. Sad to see champs of old like this.

Re: Madrid R1: Andreev def. Ferrero 6-4 7-6(4)

Very good match. Andreev was excellent on the big points and serve and forehand really worked well. As for jcf he was a bit rusty and Andreev coming through qualies counted in my opinion.
