Madrid R1Q: Gimeno-Traver def. Clement 6-0 6-1

DGT gets a rare win and first ATP player to win on the smurf clay. Not to say he is back in any form as beating Clement on clay isn't huge.

Either plays Gil or Ebden next.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Machado wins 6-2 6-1

Oh Arno, you just can't do it on clay

But Dani got one of the best draws possible so good he took advantage of it.

What's with Dani playing so well at Madrid?

Dani
Hope he can build over this. He has been a mess, lately.
And he seems to play his best in Madrid, after his outstanding performance last year.

He has to make main draw first, but he has a good record vs. Gil. Then again he has to improve at some point.

Yeah, but DGT made the 3rd round here last year despite doing Sweet FA for most of last year.

He tends to do well in Spain throughout his career. His energy levels are higher. It's a mental/emotional thing, he feels most comfortable and confident in his home country, one would imagine.

Clément should retire for good and make babies to his beautiful girlfriend (Nolwenn)

Clement is the kind of player who was reaching slam finals during Agassi era.
