What a hero this Balazs. Coming back from a set and a break down

-Played a drop shot virtually every point. Have never seen a player use the drop-shot this often since maybe Melzer in the mid 2000's.
-Saving break points like a mental giant.
-Solid head to body ratio, almost Almagro like. That's a sign of a good clay courter in the making. (He's very skinny and has skinny arms and legs).
-Soderling-like high ball toss when serving. Possibly tossing it twice as high as his body height.
-Sometimes does an Isner like ball bounce through the legs before seving.

So there you have it folks...I've compared him to good clay court players like Almagro, Melzer, Soderling and Isner. Surely he will make his way up the rankings with these similarities.

Supporting the unusual strokes gang: Dolgopolov, Mayer, Mannarino, Tomic

Malisse was up a break in the 2nd set no?
Attila Balazs ranked 450

From what I saw this Balazs guy was REALLY good!

Berdych | Murray | Tsonga | Monfils | Raonic | Soderling

Balazs is playing so above his level it's ridiculous. This is simply the typical heartwarming out-of-nowhere cheesy story of some random dude doing something, who we will never hear of again, playing out of his skin on break points. We see this in tennis and sports in general every once in a while. Balazs just happens to be that guy this week.

Malisse completely tightened up when up a set and break. He had a chance for a double break in the second set and from that point onward, done. He was done, physically and mentally. He really should be pretty embarrassed.

Yup, and promptly lost 4 games in a row.

Balazs is returning from injury, his true ranking is probably just outside top100.

You're setting yourself up for another pathetic humiliation in here. You just never learn.

---

Malisse was obviously gassed and dead by the third set, his only chance was straight sets here.
Balazs is a decent player, if he can perform similarly on hardcourts or indoors then he's got a chance for Top100 in the long run.

There is a faint similarity to Mannarino in that he has deceiving power and relies a lot on timing, also that backhand can sting a bit, with his moonballing quality not bad either.

Kind of expected this.

I'm not sure if we'll see much from him in the future but he's way better than his current ranking

no, Malisse was up 3-1. Attila won five consecutive games in the 2nd set.

Balazs is a top 130-150 talent. Let's stop trying to make him happen. I've seen him pre-injury aka his real level. Now, maybe his motivation will lead him to doing things above his talent level, like Dodig did for a while, but he is not a top 100 talent.

I've never seen him before but he played really well. Was the more aggressive player from the middle of the second set. Had a clear game-plan to drop-shot the hell out of Malisse because his quadricep seemed to be bothering him (I don't think Malisse beating his leg with his racquet helped any).

I don't know if I want to believe Filo V. when he says that this guy played so far above his normal level. He's been out with injuries so it's hard to tell what his level really is. I'm sure Filo hasn't been watching his futures level matches this year. The guy had some good results before getting injured. He won the Palmero challenger in 2010, which is a quality clay court challengers event.

That's where he could end if he wins the tournament........
