Break points "record"?

Gensse-Pospisil match in progress.

Gensse had so far 16 break points, did not convert a single one yet.Is this best ever!?

Re: Break points "record"?

Stepanek has it to my knowledge, trying to find it. Won the match though, like 4-6 7-6 7-6

Found it. It was only 16 though

Re: Break points "record"?

This comes close to Nadal's legendary 2/26 vs. Garcia-Lopez.

Unbelivable!
Gensse took break point No.17 and finally converted.

Hehe, that was my first thought when I read the thread title: "Stepanek".

Was just incredible he won that match, how did he possibly survive the mental damage all those missed chances would produce?

Nalbandian 1/19 vs. Verdasco at Wimbledon.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Machado wins 6-2 6-1

When I opened thread it was tie , also 16 out of 16.Then at score 4-4 Pospisil had several chances to break and finish off the whole match

Looks like Gensse "blew it", because start of 3rd set and right away 3 break points for him.
1st one converted again. Now we are at 2 out of 18

Re: Break points "record"?

Very likely the record for a set comes from the US Open 2003 when Blake saved 19 break points against Federer in the 2nd set, but lost in straights anyway (3-6 6-7 3-6)

stroke <- point <- game <- set <- MATCH -> round -> tournament -> season -> career
My favorite stats
Longest matches

Tie-breaks

In matches with 15 or more break point opportunities, the lowest conversion rate was:

Fed really did fail in that 2007 RG final.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....
