USTA French Open Wild Card

The USTA French Open wild card will be awarded to the American player with the highest total of cumulative singles main draw ATP ranking points from the Sarasota and Savannah Challengers. Last week, Querrey won the Sarasota Challenger, but his ranking is high enough for the French.

Here are the leaders and contenders (players still in the tournament) as of today 4/26:

1. Odesnik: 42 points (lost 2nd rd in Savannah)

Brian Baker: 31 points

Sweeting: 15 points

Rhyne Williams: 18 points

Ginepri: 15 points

Blake Strode: 18 points

All of these players still have a shot at winning the WC based on their performance in the Sarasota Challenger. Odesnik is currently the leader, but he lost in the second round of Sarasota and another American could surpass him.

Sweeting to the final

None of those mugs deserve a WC. All Americans are horrendous on clay and shouldn't even bother coming to this event. I much prefer actual decent players getting WC (I enjoyed the R1 of 2010 RG with Nadal playing against some French kid).

very unlikely that Odesnik stays on top.

he would need ginepri to beat baker, polansky to beat strode and ginepri and one of gensse or pospisil to come through the bottom half.

I'll be rooting for Baker. Sweeting is probably slight favourite.

I bet you enjoyed Nadal playing some teenager ranked near 700 with no experience in a slam (or an ATP event) before that date or since that event. Someone like Brian Baker or Sweeting could actually make the second round at the FO. Obviously no WC will have a real chance against Nadal, whoever it may be.

Supporting the unusual strokes gang: Dolgopolov, Mayer, Mannarino, Tomic

Re: USTA French Open Wild Card

I'll be happy with anyone but Odesnik and Ginepri, to be honest. But am definitely rooting for Baker out of sympathy.

Re: USTA French Open Wild Card

it's probably the best American in this tournament who will reach the final or win the tournament, who will get it.

Only a final between Polansky and Pospisil or Gensse would qualify Baker if he beats Ginepri, or Odesnik.

Sweeting clearly has a chance.
