Bucharest R2: Malisse def. Mayer 7-5 4-6 6-4

Flo simply is not the player he was last season. He doesn't seem to know what he wants to do on court. Either be aggressive, play he cat and mouse game, be more passive. He was at his best when he was being offensive, returning aggressively and trying to attack the net, but he made too many errors and was all over the place for most the match, especially with his forehand.

X-Man played a decent match. First half of the match was really poor but it got better as it continued and the third set was pretty good. X-Man played a composed match, and seemed motivated. The title is wide open for anyone to take, let's see if Xavier can be the one to take advantage.

The last two sets were really decent. I was surprised that Mayer was fighting well, but he is far away from his best

Doesn't matter, either result would've been fine.

What was most important were the few dropshot return winners from both players. That's the stuff, kids.

Very happy with this result, I knew Malisse can win this matchup and I'm relieved that he fought till the end and didn't zone out this time.

There were some awesome touch shots from both. Malisse was actually the more effective in that area. He has amazingly soft hands and great creativity.

He also hit some great shots on the run, including a forehand on the run to set up break point in the third set.

Malisse seems to be having some fun on court this week. Even after choked serving out the opener (broken to love), his attitude was pretty good.

Yes, that was a strong game. Two forehand winners, good returns, he played a very assertive and offensive game to break, he also stepped his game up when Flo was putting some pressure on him when serving for the match. Mentally, he was very good overall.

It's sad to see Florian in the bad state that he indeed currently is, on the other hand, well done by Malisse who appears to be doing rather fine lately. Relatively speaking of course, but he's doing okay for such an oldie.

Flo , can't even play well on clay, losting to HC players like Kukushkin & Malisse. He is nowhere near 2011 form. Anyways, congrats to X-Man, he should make SF's at least.
