Predictions for 2005

I thought I would start a thread for predictions of what will happen in 2005: the categories come from the predictions section of this thread that I found while browsing through some of the old threads. For the last three categories (disappointments, retirements, and players who will fall in the rankings) you can put down as many answers as you want.

Australian Open champion:

Roland Garros champion:

Wimbledon champion:

US Open champion:

Davis Cup champion:

Year-end number one:

Year-end top ten players (not necessarily in order):

Newcomer:

Most improved player:

Disappointments of the year:

Players who will retire:

Geronimoooo awards (players who will fall in the rankings):

Re: Predictions for 2005

Australian Open champion: Safin or Federer

Roland Garros champion: Who knows? It's almost a surprise every year... Maybe Coria?

Wimbledon champion: Federer

US Open champion: Federer or Roddick

Davis Cup champion: Maybe Australia or USA.

Year-end number one: Federer

Year-end top ten players (not necessarily in order): Federer, Roddick, Safin, Nalbandian, J. Johansson, Ferrero, Robredo, Haas, Hewitt, Canas

Newcomer: What's the definition of "newcomer"? First full year on the tour? Maybe Lu Yen-Hsun, Santiago Ventura or Monfils.

Most improved player: If this refers to ranking improvements, Lu Yen-Hsun or Santiago Ventura or Nicolas Almagro.

Disappointments of the year: Henman, Moya, Massu, Srichaphan

Players who will retire: Agassi, Kuerten, Bjorkman (from singles), Enqvist, Wayne Arthurs (from singles), Corretja (from singles),

Geronimoooo awards (players who will fall in the rankings): Schuettler (to the depths of below Top 60), Hrbaty (can he defend points from so many titles?), Massu, Santoro, Pavel

Re: Predictions for 2005

The guys capable of the grandslams... well, I guess Marat can do anything if he puts his mind to it. Roger is always going to be a favourite, and Lleyton can focus on his tennis now, so...

Davis Cup champion: Spain / Australia

Year-end number one: Hewitt / Safin

Year-end top ten players (not necessarily in order): Roger, Andy, Marat, Moya, Joachim Johansson , Hewitt (I dont follow the top guys)

Newcomer: Igor Kunitsyn well, I hope so.

Most improved player: Rainer Schuettler! There's only one way to go, really.

Disappointments of the year: Quite possibly Jurgen and Jarkko if they cant get some more confidence. These guys could really go either way though.

Players who will retire: Philippoussis lands acting deal and retires ,Todd Woodbridge, Jonas Björkman-singles at least. Unless he finds some form and Todd will play doubs more. Cyril Suk? I think that man will play tennis until the day he dies!

Geronimoooo awards (players who will fall in the rankings): I agree with crouching. If Massu doesnt find his form, he'll start to freefall

Re: Predictions for 2005

Yes, and it will be even longer if we start these threads now! Mind you, if Roger's finished for the rest of the year, it might as well be off-season

Urr, I think the "Geronimoooo award" is for a player who falls in the rankings by a lot, e.g. Mark Philippoussis from Top 10 to outside the Top 100.

Falling from, e.g. No. 5 to No. 8, is not "geronimoooo" at all...
