Exactly. I'm no fan of Murray but this is the attitude he needs. This is not worth its own thread.

I like the self-confidence but at some point this year he's going to have to start to back it up with some serious results.

i don't blame him for poor slam finals results.....look who fed faced in his first 4 slams finals and even semifinals.....utter nobodies in comparison to all time greats.....that's like a free ticket to 4 slams straightaway.....

murray's just unfortunate to be playing behind nadal and fed.....i like what he says here, he and nadal are chasing djokovic and nobody actually realizes it.....

He faced Safin, Roddick, Ferrero, Hewitt... all better than Murray.

I seem to remember Murray losing to a no longer in his prime Roddick in Wimbledon 2009. Roddick was a free ticket to Federer because he (Federer) is one of the best ever. As you saw, he was not a free ticket to Murray.

Pure nonsense. There are no easy opponents in the slam finals.

Re: Murray : "I can still become the best in the world this year"

I honestly don't see why he's getting slated. Him and Djokovic were equal until Djokovic decided he wanted the glory for himself (2011). Now it's Murray's turn to man the fuck up. This is the attitude he has needed for quite some time now and it's good that he finally has it. However, he needs to bring this attitude on court with him, he can't just fantasise about it and pretend he wants it, he has to go out on court believing everything he says in press conferences are true.

And people saying he is just putting additional pressure on himself? I'm sure Andy, and any other athlete out there would rather put pressure on themselves than let others do it for them. Yes he is probably putting more pressure on himself, but atleast he is doing it on his terms.

But surely you would rather have Puerta, Tsonga or Philippoussis (Nadal, Djokovic and Federer's 1st slam opponents) than Federer or Djokovic?

He's only saying this to prevent Simon Reed from making the same prediction. Smart move.

Re: Murray : "I can still become the best in the world this year"

I'm just gonna say I don't think he'll ever reach number one in his career simply because there is always someone better. Nadal and Djokovic are not going anywhere and they're all in the same age group.

I believe he can win a slam, and as much as I fucking hate his goddamn gut I do hope he wins one slam in his career just because I feel sorry for him that someone with such talent may never win a slam. I have underachieving faves on the WTA and I can understand how painful it can be so...

No, they weren't. Djokovic had already a Slam, in Australia in 2008, as well as the World Tour Finals (the fifth most important tournament), not to mention he always had more weapons than Murray. They were not equal at all.

Each of those players mentioned earned their place in the final by winning six best of five matches in a row. They probaly knocked out some high seeded players on their way. They were healthy and played their best tennis before the final. Why would they suddenly be easy opponents in the final?
