WWW Miami R1: Stakhovsky vs Tomic
Last season, Bernard lost 5-7 in the third set to Andujar in his first match at this event, but this is a different match-up and the courts are supposedly playing a bit quicker, which will help him. Stakhovsky played a competitive match with Berdych in the second round of Indian Wells but has failed to win back-to-back matches at a tournament this season. The two have never played each other.
Tomic had a meltdown after being in control vs Muller in Indian Wells, being bageled in the third set after losing a second set tiebreak. I think Stakhovsky will win this in either two tight sets or in three. Tomic has proven himself as someone who struggles with good servers and Stakhovsky can outsmart Bernard from the baseline and put the pressure on him with his net approaches. Tomic doesn't have the weapons to outhit Stakhovsky and I expect him to eventually get flustered and error himself to a loss.
