CH Marrakech R1: PHM def. Cervantes 6-1 6-4
Good first set from Mathieu. Hard hitting, great direction of shot, good consistency, good patterns of play. Everything was positive, he was dominating play. Cervantes served better in the second set, fought very hard and PHM got a lot more tentative as the set went on, and only served at 37% in the set. Cervantes is a bad returner so PHM didn't get hurt by this until the final game where he had to save a break point serving for the match, after double faulting.
Overall, he looks healthy, and that's the most important thing. He'll get better with more matches and rhythm.
good result. Cervantes is a decent, young player. In the second set, PHM had break points in three seperate games that he did not convert. Against better players, he is going to have to have a better break point conversion percentage. On clay, a one for seven on break points is pretty poor. Other than that, it seems he is in decent form. Also, he had not played a match on clay for almost two years, so I think he did well considering that factor.
This is talent! Cervantes outclassed by FHM - Father Henri Mathieu, on his tough come back after being on wheelchair for some weeks.
Almost choked it when serving for the match but thank god it didn't happen.
Who's next? (too lazy to search the draw, I'll do it later)
