Indian Wells R2: [9] Del Potro def. [Q] Matosevic 7-5 6-2

Solid from JMDP overall, especially as the match went onward. Matosevic had his chances in the first set and gave a good account of himself in general. Del Potro served really well in the big moments throughout the match, served better overall as the match continued, cut down on the errors as the match went on and started hitting with more authority, especially with the forehand. MM made some poor forehand and volley errors that cost him the first set but was really dictating play for the entire set, his BH is a very sharp and clean shot, and he served well in the first set. He just couldn't keep it up in the end but he's definitely a lot better player than he was previous to this big run he's on.

Overall, a good test for Del Potro for his first match here, and one he came through well.

matosevic played very well, its a shame he had to face the goat so early he couldve had a good run here otherwise.

Matosevic played very very well in the first set, and second well he made too many unforced errors, but overrall congrats to the big man Delpo

Fell asleep half way through 1st set. Del Potro hit his first FH winner at 4*-5 30-30 and then he raised his game. Solid yet nothing special from the Tandil Giant. 11-14, I'll take that

I have to say, my view of MM has increased after today. He definitely showed me a lot. He was the one dominating the points the entire first set. Del Potro just hit a few good passing shots and MM missed a couple forehands and volleys and everything changed.

Goes to show it's the mental side that really is the biggest separation between guys ranked where Matosevic is and where Del Potro is.

Someone tell Matosevic that he's not that good because he doesn't seem to realize that himself ATM.

I watched some of MM's matches in Delray. He came out playing well today because of confidence imo and the big guy beat him down making few mistakes once he got his groove on.

True. And yes, Matosevic's level of play is totally confidence driven right now. When/if he loses a close match or to someone he feels he should have beaten, I wonder what that will do to him mentally. I doubt he'd keep up this level of play.

DelPo did not look spent. How stupid. The guy always looks like that. When are you people going to stop bullshitting yourself. Del Po just look like that. I keep hearing this ... Del Po is tired... he is dying on the court. Yet he wins somehow and plays for hours when tired. Please.
