We haven't had any coverage yet, but it looks like the courts will be EVEN slower this year

Indian Wells
From your quote, it sounds like Djokovic's English being not perfect, and what he really means is...
The courts are slow.... [slower than where he was just playing, Dubai].

That's what I'm hoping, because these tar-courts can't get any frickin' slower.

I agree from that phrase it seems that Djokovic is just saying that the courts in IW are slower than the majority of courts o tour. Not that IW has been slowned down again.

I think he's just saying that IW is slower than elsewhere, not that they're slower than last year.

I think they're slowing the courts down so David Ferrer will have a chance at the semis. :-)

Re: Novak Djokovic: "I think the courts are a little bit slower"

Isn't he referring to the courts being slower in comparison with other tournaments?

He probably meant slower than Dubai.

I think he was trying to say that IW has the slowest tennis courts in the world. Ever.

He's clearly comparing to the rest of the tour, not the previous year. Indian Wells being slow is a given, it's been the same since they changed to the current surface in 1999.

1999: Jana Novotna, "But this surface is impossible to serve and volley all the time. It is impossible because it's slow enough for other players to make a decent passing shot."

2000: Byron Black, "The courts are slow, but the ball goes through the air very quickly"

2001: Sarah Pitkowski, "They really slow. They sticky and slow."

2002: Alexandra Stevenson: "The courts are slow, like I said"

Even the balls....

----------------------------
2004:
Q. Hewitt came in here and was complaining about the balls. He said he found that they were extraordinarily heavy. What do you think about the balls?

JUAN IGNACIO CHELA: I thought they were real heavy, but for me it was in my favor, and I'm happy about it.
----------------------------

2012: Brad Gilbert, "Sam says outside courts playing fairly slow and the balls are fluffing up, I'll do the master inspection this morning".

Re: Novak Djokovic: "I think the courts are a little bit slower"

First two pages, everyone is in a nerd-rage about the court speed.
Page three, everyone is suddenly enlightened.

I understand that he compares IW with the other years and not to Dubai.

All that slow surfaces are killing the good tennis.
