I'm not sure if matches should be allowed to continue after such a choke in a set..

Probably someone of our statisticans may come up with something like that : what was the biggest choke in a set by an eventual winner of the match?

It's amazing how many mentally unstable players there are in the Atp. Bubka for not holding serve once from 5-0 and Davydenko for letting Bubka get to 5-0.

like i said im not sure what was up with davy. I got there at 4-0 for bubka and he just wasnt making a whole hell of alot. Then davy turned it on and really sergei couldnt do much. I would not call it a choke more like davy waking up

What a mug this Bubka is. Choking a 5-0 advantage to Baldenko is epic fail.

given how you didnt see the match at all i dont see how you can call it a choke. especially considering the one person(me)who saw enough of it to say has been saying it wasnt

Losing 5-0 lead is a choke no matter what. Losing a small lead due to other player stepping it up is fine, but having 5-0 with a bunch of SP's and not being able to win a set is classic choking.

You should see the woman's side, very painful to watch these women serve out for the match, even though they are top seeded players and non top seeded

^^ That match was WTA, so chokes are expected as women can't hold serve - losing 5-0 lead and set pts on the ATP tour is pathetic.

Re: Indian Wells R1: Davydenko def. Bubka 7/5 6/3 (warning: extreme choke)

Misty saw the match so she's the one in position to describe what happened. She said it wasn't a choke and Davydenko simply found his game and was the clear better player after falling behind 0-5. So, what she says carries more weight than what any armchair analyst here has to say.

Re: Indian Wells R1: Davydenko def. Bubka 7/5 6/3 (warning: extreme choke)

Davydenko could have packed it in and let the first set go by but he fought back. Down two set points to go down 0-6, easy to just throw the set away and get ready for set two. He deserves credit just for that, and that alone tells me it wasn't a choke. Davydenko just found a way to raise his game, and when he's on he's 3 levels better than Bubka.

Re: Indian Wells R1: Davydenko def. Bubka 7/5 6/3 (warning: extreme choke)

this can't be that big of a choke because it was only a set, who knows what would have happened in sets 2 and 3 had Bubka won set 1 6-0, he wasn't in a position to win the match, just the set. It was a huge set choke, but not a match choke

please explain your way of thinking because ignoring the fact that it was a 3rd set, and as result affected the match more, standing alone as a set someone being up 5-0 40-0(and serving), and losing that set, is worse than someone being up 5-0 40-15(and returning), so the choke for Lajovic to lose set 3 of that match was worse than the choke for Bubka to lose set 1 in this match.

Choke is the second most overused word on this forum.
