Indian Wells R1: Garcia-Lopez def. Machado 7-6(6) 4-6 6-2

Yet another topsy-turvy match. GGL was broken the first game of the match and both players struggled for most of the first set to hold their serves. GGL broke to get it back on serve for 3 all and both held serve from that point onward to go into tiebreak.

Machado was twice up a mini-break and had a *6-4 tiebreak lead and lost four straight points to lose the set. GGL broke immediately to start the second set on a DF from Machado but got broken from 40-15 up to tie the scores. Machado held from 15-40 down to hold for 2-1, broke at love for *3-1 and had 40-15 to hold for 4-1 but got broken. GGL had *0-30 at 4-4 to serve for the match but didn't take advantage, and was broken the very next game to 30 to lose the set.

GGL bounced back well and started the third set with a break of serve, a hold of serve saving a break point, and another break to get out to a *3-0 lead that he held onto for the rest of the set and eventually winning the match. GGL is in poor form and his ranking has slipped so this is a very necessary and important victory for him as his top 100 spot is in potential jeopardy. Machado is now 0-7 on the season and continues to cement his reputation as a challenger-only player.

So close to having two Portugese players in the second round.

Stronga,Monfils,DelPo,Nalbandian,Berdych,Gulbis,Ha as and Djokovic are the players I support the most.

Terrible match. The hell is wrong with GGL these days . He has a decent ground game to play good tennis, yet he's shit at it.

Garcia-Lopez got overranked and overrated after a couple big runs and beating Nadal at Bangkok. He was for a long time a 50-90 player until 2010 and that's what his real level is. Plus he's a confidence player and that's obviously not there since he's been struggling for form for around a year now. But he fights hard; so any win is a good one at this point.

Good for tennis. Machado is a shunt.

Garcia-Lopez is honestly not very good...he had that great run in the end of 2010 but he has been awful since...Machado is just atrocious though, BAHA Guillermo ole!

What's the bet that this will be a challenger tournament match the next time these two play?

So someone recently informed me that my sig was empty. Said I needed a life affirming motivational quote by a positive role model like Einstein or Oscar Wilde...

Great tip to stay fit and mobile: If you run up and down the stairs two steps at a time at least once daily, there will never come a time when you can't do it. Until of course one day you mistime a step, collapse and break all your bones... That would suck. But you had a good run.

Ehh, Garcia is 88 year to date, can still get into MDs even if barely. But Machado is 209

Where is that Portuguese guy who always creates threads and posts for every Machado's win?
