Of course, it goes without saying Federer's chances would have been better in any U.S.O. finals when he could still hit a proper ball from wide on his forehand side, i.e., between 2003 & 2007.

When Fed won against him comparing to when Nadal won is generally summarized by "outdoors/indoors"

but nobody knows if the distinction is not rather "quick outdoors / slow outdoors".

Fed and Nadal never played against each other in the US Open, Cinci, Toronto/Montreal, Shanghai.

The Fed-Nadal H2H is like that : hugely biased in surfaces, yet will always be remembered as it finally happened to be.

Was a benediction of God for Nadal : both great match-up and surfaces exactly made for him.

If Fed had not been there, Nadal would have been much lowly considered.

That said, Fed might have won one of these finals now, might have, and I'm one who can never imagine Fed beating Nadal before they play, including before their WTF match
Agree with this, Despite huge match-up advantage for Nadal, Federer will always be favorit indoors and on faster outdoor HC, but like you mentioned thay never played during summer fast outdoor HC, i would love to see Roger destroy Rafa in Cincinnati

About their outdoor HC matches. Roger won only 1 5setter at Miami, when he was playing at his peak and Rafa was still not such great HC player like today, also that los in Dubai - Roger won more points in that match than Rafa. Other matches like 2xAO, were close but Rafa won those matches, Roger wasn´t able to penetrate his deffense on such slow surfaces.

Interresting thing is also that both Roger´s victories over Rafa on clay came on clay courts that suits his game.

Madrid is known as probably fastest clay event and Hamburg was Roger´s event, he was there very good, low bounce for clay and Roger was very succesfull at Hamburg´s clay.

Generally we can say that faster the surface better for Roger and opposite, slower the surfaces Rafa takes the edge.

Roger Federer discusses why he went through a 14-month title drought on outdoor hard courts. Federer won the Dubai title on outdoor hard courts last week, his first crown on cement since 2011 Doha.

"Part of it is where Novak [Djokovic] and [Andy] Murray have played really well on hard courts last season and I was extremely close the last couple of US Opens with match points in the semis [against Djokovic] and that would have given me the opportunity to be in the finals, and I believe I would have won at least one of the two and I didn't, I lost twice in semis. I've lost tough matches, but it also has something to do with the strength of Murray, Djokovic and Nadal."

Having said that, we can never underestimate Roger's ability to lose to Nadal. In 2011, a "mistake" with the painting resulted in the slowest U.S.O. ever, so I don't see Roger winning that. All in all, winning at least one is a fair conjecture, at least if Roger is putting his horrific choking tendencies against Nadull out of his mind - & why not?
Pretty much.

Nadal responded: 'If Fed wasn't such a damn choker against Novak in those semi's, I'd be sitting on 11 slams already.'

When you look at the actual article and the entire interview, it makes more sense. People take 1 statement OUT OF CONTEXT and put it on Twitter. It sounds foolish and cocky. Unbelievable. For Gods sake, get a LIFE!Any good player who has lost in consecutive semis of the same grand slam, would feel definitely that he had a good chance of winning atleast 1 final. Just because its Nadal, Federer is supposed to become a coward and not even HOPE that he could have won 1 final? Give me a break.

Nadal had pretty easy draws both times around IIRC. It's quite possible.

As for US Open 2011 Nadal's serve was very breakable but then again Fed never takes his breakpoints, unlike Djokovic who does - I certainly wouldn't be confident for Fed.

As usual one comment is taking out of the context on MTF. Instead of also adding the fact what Roger said about his opponents people bash something else.

As someone said in here Roger could already hang up his raquet if he wouldn't believe in his chances. He is 30 years old, has won nearly everything in tennis but it's obvious that he still has the ambition to win more.

It's obvious that the losses against Djokovic in both of the mentioned SF's are still bothering Roger but who can blame him? Who else has lost back to back in the SF of a GS after having MPs?
