Re: Who will be the next single handed backhand player to win a slam and when?

fed, 2012. usopen

Q. Do you think you would have been able to play as well as you played today, or you think you would have pulled out from the game if it wasn't the Masters Cup final?

ROGER FEDERER: No, Roger Federer doesn't pull out. Otherwise he doesn't walk on court (smiling).

After losing to Nalbandian in 2005 TMC final...

Myself. 2016 US Open/2017 Australian Open.

Not even God coaching Gasquet would lead him to a slam.

Re: Who will be the next single handed backhand player to win a slam and when?

Henman W 2014.

Doing the ULTIMATE Ivanesevic (not that he actually reached the final in the first place).

| Wins over 3+ of the Top 4. Players to reach all slam QFs+ in history. Hawkeye/Line Calls. QFs+ at Slams & Masters, but never Top 20.
Haas / The Fog / Tsonga / Gojowczyk / Brown / Nole / Mahut / Sijsling / Dolgo / Cuevas / Fed / Stan / Baker / Alund / Kei / Tursunov / Copil / Bolelli / Brands / Benneteau / Steps / Stakh / PHM
Rafter / Edberg / Henman / Stich / Safin / Gambill / Grosjean / Malisse / Gonzo / Llodra / Santoro / Agassi / Schalken / Nováček / Rosewall / H-T Lee / Kuerten / Boetsch / Pavel / Sundström / Björkman / Scud / El Aynaoui / Arazi / Calleri / Sampras / Nalbandian / Mosquito / Srichaphan / Pioline

Y?
i think he has the best style: dinamic with very high variety. can play in baseline (far and near) good at net. Cool serve.
But mental wick.
He is typical artist (=mug)

Irrelevant question until the the top 2 retire. But I don't see it happening unless tennis devolves back into the black hole it was before.

Re: Who will be the next single handed backhand player to win a slam and when?

Onehanded backhand is dying so I think no one with a onehanded backhand will win a slam for 10 years after Federer wins his last slam.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

Probably because Gasquet, with his 'best' style, has made only one Grand Slam QF so far...

Re: Who will be the next single handed backhand player to win a slam and when?

I would not absolutely rule out an Almagro run at AO or RG
Otherwise, Dimitrov and Marti (he has one, right?) are players to watch, but I doubt it

Matosevic, Hanescu, Lorenzi, Kukushkin, Chiudinelli, Gulbis, Bozoljac, Gabashvili, Hernych, Brown, Garcia-Lopez, Rosol, Zeballos, Istomin, Kohlschreiber, Tursunov, Robert, Gonzalez, Monaco, Thiem, Seppi

Fitness and forehand are no where near good enough to win a slam.
