this is just days away now. dubai duty free is just about a done deal now.

lets get this party started already.

who pulls up here as the heavy favorite? can nodjok defend his title or will he meet some resistence from the other 3 top guns?

what are your expectations for Fed, murray, clay warrior, and nodjok here?

does anybody else has a chance to get into the final? could d-pot be a dark horse?

take it away and have a blast.
Definitely Nole is the favorite but the slower surface + extended time off means that Nadal will be right there.

I expect Fed to atleast make the semis and be a slight underdog against Rafa or Djokovic in the semis. Same for Murray. I expect a Nadal-Djoker final with Rafa winning this time around.

No dark horses. No one is playing well enough. Delpo should be dead after playing 4 weeks in a row.

Fed's a massive underdog on slow HCs against either Rafa or Nole - when was the last time he beat either on that surface? IW is very slow & high bouncing - Nadal's best HC masters & great results for Novak too. On fast HCs the situation is different but I don't see Fed beating 2 of the Andy/Rafa/Nole as they are all, at this stage in his career, superior to him on slow outdoor HCs.

If one of those guys is upset early then Fed has a shot. Someone like Raonic could have a great serving day and upset someone... Though again the surface makes it less likely.

Re: Indian Wells 2012 : Poolside Chats in the Desert

I´m going for the underdog here. Nadal was so close to beating Djokovic at the AO, and now that Murray has shown it can be done, Djokovic is not enjoying the hyped-up, invincible status than last year. Nadal is also well rested, and the slower surface favors him. If he wants to gain some mental edge over Djokovic in time for the clay season, this is good place to do it.

I don't know if the courts here are as high-bouncing as the Switzerland's Davis cup clay clourt,or not.But it's even slower, and Isner can be a threat to anyone.I'd love to see Isner vs Fed or Isner vs Nadal in the QF.

It looks like Milos is set to play one of the top 8 in the 3rd round. I hope it's one of Djokovic, Murray, or Federer. Not that I expect him to win such a match on an outdoor, slower hard court, but that would be a good challenge and has the potential to be a good early match in the tournament.

Re: Indian Wells 2012 : Poolside Chats in the Desert

favorites : djoko, muzza, fed
serious contestants : delpo and rafa
dark horse : tsonga

Je n'enlève rien à ce que Novak a fait mais je crois qu'il faut encore faire davantage. Rafa a neuf Grands Chelems, moi seize, lui deux.

Indian Wells is a PlexiPave IW court, which is rated Category 1 Slow in the plexipave article.
Miami is Laykold Cushion Plus surface which is rated Category 1 Slow in the Laykold article.

Slow is the slowest rating and is a typical rating for most clay courts.

What's a bit strange is that both of these hard court surfaces have been rated as Medium-Slow by the ITF in their most recent tests shown on the ITF tech site. This might be explained by two or three things. The latest tests of the surface were done on newer versions of the surface (companies typically submit a sample for test purposes), or the scale has been adjusted somewhat (kind of doubt this), or the courts were on the border between slow and medium-slow (more likely).

In any case players have rated these courts as among the slowest outdoor courts (along with Shanghai) on the tour. It seems that the consensus says that Indian Wells plays slower than Miami because the bounce is higher at IW.

Respectfully,

I got Djokovic beating Nadal in IW and Nadal beating Murray in Miami final, respectively.

If Mr. Djokovic and Mr. Nadal play each other on these courts similar to the way they played in Australia, the match might take 4-5 hours for a 3 set match with the slowness of these courts.

The winner will definitely be one of the Top 4, very curious to see how Rafa plays in his first few matches since he hasn't played a competitive match for about 6 weeks by the time IW starts.

Nole - well he is the defending champ, even though he didn't look sharp at all in Dubai, maybe he will suddenly click into another gear when IW starts, we will see.

Roger - think he will make the SF once more, but Nole or Rafa will be there to stop him advancing to the final.

Can't wait for the draw to be revealed, will be interesting to see which Top 4 draws Delpo in their quarter. Also want to see how Isner, Tsonga, Nishikori, Tomic play, will be quite an interesting tournament.
excellent post coonster.

i am just wondering if some sort of doubt will start to creep into NoDjok`s mind if he runs into murray again at indian wells.

any idea when the draw will be revealed?
