Possible, he will need help from some other bloke beating Rafa in the earlier rounds of tournaments.

Even Murray can since he's not really defending anything major up to RG. Will be interesting but if Nadal doesn't perform half decent then Federer will probably go into RG as world number 2 I would think.

This is clearly the preferable situation for Federer, if Murray gets to nr2 Federer is guaranteed to not play Nadal until the RG final. Also he can get Murray in SF and Djokovic in the final, ideal situation to have a shot at RG title, but this is a long shot ofcourse.

Thing is if Federer is nr2 and Murray ends up in Djokovic's half it is not all that good for Federer, he gets to play Nadal in yet another SF and Murray might just beat Djokovic just to lose in straights to Nadal in the final.

Interesting how Federer wants to be on the even level to Nadal. Getting to 2 would be more helpful to win the event, as 4 he could face Djokovic/Nadal just like he did last year.

Nadal will fall

Hey, I'm not setting a date. Just thought that eventually he will fall

Re: Will Federer get to 2nd place in the rankings before RG?

According to my calculations, currently the situation before Roland-Garros after dropping eeach of them's points is :

Federer 7385
Nadal 6795
Murray 6620

(Djokovic 9310)

I think it's far too short with the clay events coming, esp as I don't think Fed will succeed in next events, which will be played on slow surfaces ... and also because Fed knows that the real important period for him is between Roland-Garros and the US Open, he won't make many efforts in the period before imo.

He won tournaments on fast surfaces, that's all, that's good but this period is ended

Re: Will Federer get to 2nd place in the rankings before RG?

Really difficult as Nadal has to lose early and Fed to win or make final.

Nadal is NOT losing early and it'll be very hard for Fed to win one of these really slow tournaments. I could see the next tournaments being split between Nadal and Djokovic.

Fed I think is still the 2nd best Clay Court player and if Nadal is on Djokovic's half and he takes him out to meet Roger in the final then Fed might have a slight 30% chance. Otherwise no chance.

not sure about Fed being the 2nd best player on clay. yeah he did def. Nole at RG last year, but Nole won Madrid and Rome. as for Rafa and Rog on clay, c'mon Rog doesn't stand a chance. Nadal will simply humiliate him, not just on clay but on hc too. it is what it is.

Federer IS the second best clay courter on tour. He has 5 RG finals(like Lendl and Wilander) and 1 RG title. The biggest and most important clay title is RG. Djokovic has zero finals there.

in the past yes, but now clearly Djokovic is the best one with Nadal, one SF won by Fed in RG doesn't compensate what Djokovic had done in Madrid and Roma

Re: Will Federer get to 2nd place in the rankings before RG?

I disagree regarding the clay court statute of Djokovic. Until he wins or gets to a RG final, results at RG will speak a lot more about his prowess on this surface than at any other tournament. Djokovic was virtually unbeatable last year on any surface so it's not a surprise he won two titles.

Re: Will Federer get to 2nd place in the rankings before RG?

Nole has suddenly become a clay master after one good clay season where he didn't even make the final of RG. Guy needs to do something this year to warrant the clay hype. Last year he was winning everything under the sun in that period so its not necessarily a reflection on his clay credentials. Very good clay player for sure but not Nadal levels of unbeatable yet.

Re: Will Federer get to 2nd place in the rankings before RG?

Fed will defeat the Raf two times, count them, two times before the French Open begins

To answer the question- no he won't make 2nd

So someone recently informed me that my sig was empty. Said I needed a life affirming motivational quote by a positive role model like Einstein or Oscar Wilde...

Here's a tip. Don't regret nothin'. You ain't got the time. Before you know it, you'll be 60 something years old giving free advice to some cheapskate runt... Then going home and regretting it.
