Top 10 Indoor Players of all time

I am going to try something radically different, yes it's a tennis thread.

The question is who would make the top 10 indoor players of all time. With the indoors I am not classifying clay or grass as they are only used for Davis Cup matches, it includes tournaments played on carpet and indoor hardcourts.

This should be judged on ability, consistency and overall results, and not just on prejudices like not liking Lendl at all, but not putting him in this list, when it's clear he was one of the best, that ruined the claycourt tread.

Here is the list and maybe some reasons later.

1. Lendl
2. Sampras
3. Becker
4. McEnroe
5. Edberg
6. Borg
7. Stich
8. Ivanisevic
9. Nastase
10. Safin

Though the 10th place could have to gone to many people.

Re: Top 10 Indoor Players of all time

Nice thread.

It's 4am and I don't have much to contribute to this off the top of my head... I'll try to find some time between wasting time tomorrow to dig up some old records.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

Re: Top 10 Indoor Players of all time

I'm into tennis since '99 so all I can say is at least Marat deserves to be there. With two titles in Paris, a final he lost to Agassi there, 2 titles in St. Petersburg, a semi in Moscow, a semi in Madrid, a semi in Bangkok, a semi at the TMC Lisbon and I'm sure there's some things that I can't remember, he deserves to be mentioned.

SINCE THERE'S NO TENNIS ACTION I WENT FOR TONGUE ACTION

Re: Top 10 Indoor Players of all time

Ok, this one is a challenging thread, but here goes my choices.

1. Lendl ( all those indoor titles and finals making the final in the Masters 8x in a row huge)
2. Becker ( at his best a devastating beast indoors and he didn't get bothered by the little things)
3. Sampras
4. McEnroe
5. Stich
6. Borg
7. Edberg
8. Enqvist
9. Safin
10. Ivanisevic

Mentions to Nastase, Rosset and Henman.

I'd have tompa on the list as well
he was brilliant indoors, one of the best in his time.

his Record speaks for itself

Re: Top 10 Indoor Players of all time

I didn't follow tennis in the eighties so I'll go for 90's until now and IMO Becker, Sampras and Goran were clearly above the rest with a roof above their head (I read somewhere Goran had the most wins on indoor ever...)
That was the infernal trio with maybe Becker being the most fearsome when at his best.

Left-handedness is more than just a physical specialization. It's a state of mind.
Goran forever

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Mr Egg you are on the money in this case and that is correct.

I was going to nominate my man Kent Carlsson for that last spot, but I thought I would give it Beto, even though Kent qualified for it in 88.

Rosset was another one who was a gun indoors, but at his best he was as consistent as Gonzo, except he won on all surfaces.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Re: Top 10 Indoor Players of all time

Marat has to be in top 10 now, if not one of the best.
4 TMS titles indoors
got to update the list after some new OAFish adventures
