this will become the mother of all sports quests in modern sports. it will be known going forward simply as "The Quest".

can he snatch a total of 100 titles before he hangs up his racquets? is that a viable goal for him to have?

and also what about 20 slams now that 17 are in the bag?

i know he wants slams but slams dont come easy after 30. he will be one of the exceptions obviously if it happens. where do you see his best chance at another slam? could it be on the u.s. open surface?

somebody won a french open at 31 for instance? what was his name? that is your question of the day. here is a hint: he was 6 foot 5 and he was a left hander.

muscles (rosewall) was making the finals of slams at some ridiculous old age. so if you have the talent and you can keep up on the fitness front you can certainly show up in the finals of slams.

Realistically, he'll end up doing it at Wimbledon if it happens. If it was up to me though, I'd say play the French Open next year. He proved he can still win a slam on hardcourt (AO) and grass (WIM). Now go and give clay (RG) one last shot at least. That would be an absolutely epic way to win no. 20.

it is the prophesy so it shall come to pass:

#20 will happen at Wimbledon if not a little sooner at the Australian Open.

if there is an opening in Melbourne, Federer will capitalize on it.

I just cant see nole and andy coming back strong so quickly. they will need a few tournaments under their belts to find their traction.

we will just have to wait and see. he may just go with the same formula as this year.
I believe he will, as long as he believes he has a realistic shot at Wimbledon.

I think Fed will play RG 2018. Maybe he doesn't expect to win it, but I think he'll want to at least give a proper goodbye to that place.

Provided he retires before RG 2019. Which very well may be the case. Or maybe not. Who knows...

dont be shocked if fed's next best chance for a slam is australia. Nadal has overplayed while stan, djoker, murray will all be coming off 5-6 month layoffs and its unlikely they will be in peak mode by then.

Australia has been slowly sped up every year since that slug fest in 2012. 2018 may not be as fast as 2017 but i think it will be close as ratings and what not were probably off the chart they will want to repeat that court.

Imo 100 titles is a possibility, but it very much depends on his schedule. He can reach 100 easily by playing Halle, Basel or Brisbane... However, if he chooses to play only bigger events, it is still quite distant target.

However, a Slam no.20 is a necessity. He is definitely able to do that....to focus once more, maybe for the last time of his career on Wimbledon, where he has the biggest chance...

To be honest I don't really care which slam he wins if he does not #20, as each would bring its only special story. AO would most likely level him with Novak; RG would bring DCGS, Wimby would add to a legends tale there and USO would take him the record there. If I had to pick I'd want RG or USO but I don't mind!

My preference for #20 would be:
1. US Open as that would put him in an exclusive club on 2 slams - Wimby and US Open - Sampras 2.0+.
2. RG - double career slam (sweet dream but unlikely)
3. AO - leader/joint leader on 3 slams out of 4
4. Wimbledon - adds more to his legacy at the most coveted slam.

But #20 trumps any of those preferences.

Federer can win Slam again in 2018 ...but..
After Montreal mishap, I don't think he would never risk his body again...but again Mr. Federer is very emotional to french ppl and french open....so it's possible that he make up his mind to play one more time...

But it's also possible that as he think that he played as long as he think he can win , so if he have slightest of doubt that he might not win , he might skip it.....

This years Rogers cup decision is more like emotional one to win Montreal finally...which reflect in presentation ceremony as field is very light ....and he actually guess right untill Zvarev happens ( Fucking Gasquet)

Whatever I still believe Federer have more chance to win AO then USO now...by AO he would return back from break with fresh body , while at USO he might carry fatigue of all the season and more vulnerable to upset....but pls 20 at any HC slam.

No dude, he wanted to get the #1 asap as he saw the window of opportunity.
Even Nadal fans were saying Nadal will only be #1 for a week.
In the haste, Fed underprepared and got injured.
And now it's out of grasp practically. Still a 7th WTF would somewhat lessen the disappointment.

And the way USO is playing only Nole/Nadal would have a chance there.
It's playing completely out of character.

If Federer believes it, we most certainly should!

The Maestro arrived to Shanghai two days ago and started practicing already.
