Absolutely. I think CD might change the title now.

might be too optimistic though...

8th day of July 2012: 7-time Wimbledon champion!

Once upon a time there was a myth about strong and weak eras. On this glorious day the clownery was eventually unmasked: 30 y.o. past-prime daddy Fed became #1 once again in the supposed strong "Spartan" era with his rivals at their peak.
And they all lived happily ever after.
Long live King Federer!

17 Grand Slam titles
7 Wimbledon titles
302 weeks at #1

Re: Roger Federer : The Swiss King's Quest For 100 Titles

The Connors record is surely way out of reach. Roger needs 35 more titles. If he plays 5 more seasons after this one that's 7 a year, & he's not getting any better, is he?

CD is already pioneer, I feel
Federer's longevity is so to be concerned about now

Re: Roger Federer : The Swiss King's Quest For 100 Titles

It is a tough ask but I wonder whether RF might switch his focus on this record once he (hopefully) gets those elusive weeks at #1. I think it's achievable, be it a huge ask but he'll have to play beyond 2016. I love that he sets himself these targets as it shows commitment.

Murray wins Wimbledon 2016 after Djokovic is blue shelled by Querrey. Thanks Querrey!

He won them mostly against mugs though. Not taking anything away from him but RF's titles have been, by and large, won at the highest of levels. If RF starts including some more MMs in his schedule, he might get close to the record but I don't see him reaching 110 titles.

Agreed, difficult to see it happening if Nadal and Djokovic keep playing and he fades more severely...but stranger things have happened.

When was the last time he took 4 titles before Roland Garros? 2006, the year he won 12. Now he's done it this year.
I think there are earlier posts here questioning whether he will equal or pass John McEnroe's 76. It's not far-fetched to say it could happen at Wimbledon if he takes #75 at Halle. It's not a big stretch that he'll get close to 80 this year. That still leaves him with close to 30 to win in 4 or 5 years -avg of 6-7 year. Lendl is sitting in 2nd with 92. At this point, that's doable.

For 110? It might take is some strange combination of fate to make it happen. What happens if Nadal decides to retire in the next year or two after he has won a record # of Roland Garros titles? That wouldn't surprise me, especially if his knees are really bothering him. He might decided to take up golf. It's more difficult to see Mr. Djokovic leaving the scene, but one never knows. He might get married, have kids, it could change his outlook and drive...it has happened.

If those two top players were out of the way, then who is there left to stop Federer, besides Federer?
Murray? Ferrer? Tsonga? Del Potro? Berdych? Young guys? Raonic? Tomic? Harrison?

Respectfully,
masterclass

Federer for Wimbledon winner's trophy this year.

I think 35-37 is max. 5 years is looong time in tennis.

and there you have it.

only i thought about it long before even Fed thought about it.

there was some intuitive appeal to my logic. it simply made sense. this dude truly loves the sport.

seniors tennis or coaching was never going to be his thing.

so he is going to stick around and play until his heart is fully content.

I think he will play mixed doubles with one of his daughters in Dubai 2028 Olympic games. Maybe Damas 2032 if Mirka gives him a son soon.
