From his own Montreal post-matches interviews.

He came to play on Montreal, UNDERTRAINED.

What did he expect?

Not injured?

FFS, he's 36 yo!!!!!

Better if he put in a solid extra week of training and then play in much more game-friendly Cincinnati.

Now, no Montreal title. No Cinci AT ALL.
And put his USO title preparation at absolute risks.

So, many of us who believed he should not play Montreal have been justified.
We can't see future , Federer too. With early exit in Cinci he would't have any match practice , and he had couple of great example of early exit in Cinci just like glorious victories.
Now as Montreal goes wrong away , is't too severe ? I think he might be good even today , he have match practice , some light practice for a week and he would be ready..

Nah, how do we know this wouldn't have happened in Cinci instead? Faster surface or not, he couldn't even bend his back to serve at the end.
Now, at least he gets another week to recover for USO, compared to him injuring himself in Cinci.
This sucks, but his USO hopes are not quite done yet.

He still has at least a couple of years to win 7 titles (one being a slam), still plenty of time, no need to panic.

Plus the USO is a Slam, old man always boosts himself at the big venues.

if the back issues persist then quite obviously U.S. Open quest becomes a bit more difficult.

but then again this Roger: impossible means nothing to him.

Death of clay:

dont think its ever persisted more than 10 days. Its more of a spasm and locked back than anything else. Maybe this is for the best. It may have occured at cincy or worse at the open. Usually once it occurs after it resolves he's good for a long time.

He got his matches in. Let the rest of the field tire themselves out while fed rests. He will be 100% in full practice by the weeeknd and latest by monday where he will have a full week to practice for the open. This is more of an anoying injury that self resolves so i feel like things will be just fine.

Post more of this stuff. It's good. It makes me feel better.

I support Federer, Murray, Karlovic, Shapovalov, Goffin, Dimitrov, Djokovic, Gulbis, Haase, and others on occasion.
A weak era is an era that becomes stronger when you remove the strongest players.

I really hope we get some kind of update by the end of the week.

And yes, luckily this happened at Montreal and not a week before the USO. Plus 600 points.
