Sao Paulo R1: L Mayer def JC Ferrero 7-6 (6), 6-2

Only saw the first set. Mayer's serve was a massive weapon in these indoor conditions. He played very well, seemed to be in control of the majority of the points with his big and heavy groundstrokes. His winners or errors often dictated the points. He was down 1-4** in the TB, then reeled off 5 excellent points, some fantastic winners, including a FH up the line from off the court to go 6-4 up. Juanqui saved a couple of set points for 6-6. Mayer had another SP at 7-6*, and took it with a backhand winner down the line.

Very good performance.

Looking at Mayer's game yesterday, especially at his excellent serves and forehands, I was wondering how this guy could lose to Muster last year

stroke <- point <- game <- set <- MATCH -> round -> tournament -> season -> career
