Andy Murray first 2012 victim of gladiatorial tennis

Andy Murray is sadly the first top 4 victim of gladiatorial tennis in slow playing conditions and appears to be out of action for weeks.
See article on BBC site here.

Not surprising, his match with Djokovic was brutal - he'd have had nothing left for the final.

Djokovic of course.......

Exactly.
Lacko would be too tough for him anyway though.

If that's all it is, it's a shame.
Let's not be too quick to judge though.
Davis Cup may have just come at the wrong time, coinciding with his injuries.

You haven't had a good word to say about him since he was born so this comment doesn't surprise me

One tough match and he's injured?

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Highly doubt he would have played regardless. The top guys have a pretty good idea about their schedule months in advance and he was saying at the beginning of the season he already had some niggling injuries.

The semi final match is a good excuse though.

As any athlete knows, it only takes one wrong step, or an over extension to the shoulder, etc. to incur an injury. So certainly a tough match can generate new or aggravate previous injuries.

As much as some would like them all to be indestructible automatons, they are still made of flesh and blood.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Mr. Djokovic or Mr. Nadal unfortunately suffer injuries by the end of Roland Garros, or earlier if they continue playing as they have.

Re: Andy Murray first 2012 victim of gladiatorial tennis

Davis Cup is utterly pointless, in my opinion, and in any case Great Britain is not exactly challenging for the trophy, so I think Andy is wise to avoid playing in it if it doesn't suit him. As regards his injuries, I somehow doubt they are all that severe. This is probably just a way of saving face all round.

Of course, one could get injured in the bathroom, or picking up something from the basement, but certainly it doesn't help Murray's slam chances.

The title of this almost made me puke.

I don't like Nadal.

He is not a Davis cup guy. I don't blame him because our team sucks. Winning a major is more important for him and the nation.

It's time for the rest of the rubble to step up. Let the captain earn his stripes.

Agree. He can win his matches, and still GB can't be sure of qualifying.

I'm sure he'll be fine, and ready for Dubai and the next important tournaments, where he doesn't have that many points to defend
