Greatest Grand Slam Match of Current Era?

Over the past few years, we've had quite a few epics. It was a bit tough for me to narrow it down, but here are the top 10 matches of the current era.

To those that saw them, they need no introduction, but for those that didn't, here are briefs ones.

Wimbledon 07- Fantastic first 3 sets, intriguing last 2 sets, almost a changing of the guard, but it would have to wait another year.

Wimbledon 08- The all time classic, unmatched in terms of drama and symbolism.

Aussie Open 09 SF- Perhaps the best pure quality match here, Nadal and Verdasco goin' hard for over 5 hours, shame it ended on a DF.

Aussie Open 09 F- A true war this one, more quality than the Wimbledon 08, but nowhere near the same drama.

Roland Garros 09 R16- The ending of Rafa's first reign of #1, his first loss at the French, and a crucial match in tennis history.

Wimbledon 2009- Roddick's last chance to win a slam, Federer just too good, breaking Roddick's heart one more time.

US Open 2009- Del Potro giving it all he had to dethrone the 5 time champ Federer in New York.

French Open 2011 SF- Federer turning back the clock, playing his best match in years in defeating the previously undefeatable Nole 2011.

US Open 2011- We all remember. How Djokovic saved match point with such a return. The drama, the epicness, the choking at the end, crucial match in Djokovic's 2011 season.

Australian Open 2012- The greatest war of a tennis match in the history of the game. The drama, the pure grinding, the momentum shifts, the haymakers being thrown, the insane rallies, nearly 6 full hours of pure tennis and athletic war.

Re: Greatest Grand Slam Match of Current Era?

I'd say the 2007 was the end of the previous era and 2008 began this one. Hence of the overall options I went with Soderling because of the shockwaves it sent and the way he played for four sets.

But I'd go with Gonzalez-Gasquet in the AO for overall enjoyment levels. I wouldn't have put Del Potro-Fed or Fed-Roddick anywhere near my top 10.

Re: Greatest Grand Slam Match of Current Era?

definition of era

1980-1989(best player borg)
1990-1999 is an era(best player sampras)
2000-2009 is an era(best player fed)
2010-2019 is another era(best player nole)

justin bieber is not the best in history.
funk was better than rap.
techno not better than classic rock.

numbers are not everything.

Nadal-Verdasco for me, much as it hurts me to say so.

Fedal matches have never been so great. Djodal can produce much tighter match. So I voted today's match.

I was thinking some of the early round epics we've seen in some of the AO's the last few years, with Baghdatis and Hewitt and Nalbandian, etc. But I decided to go with slam finals instead.

I was also thinking to put Fognin-Montanes

Borg was the best from from 1980-1989?

In terms of pure quality, you gotta go with that one, but the final choke puts a bad taste in most's mouths.

Re: Greatest Grand Slam Match of Current Era?

Until someone else beats Nadal at Roland Garros, I have to go with the Soderling one.

Re: Greatest Grand Slam Match of Current Era?

2006 was the era before this so Agassi-Baghdatis wouldn't make this poll.
