Agreed! It will be interesting to see if he retains confidence in playing like this, a few good results during remainder of HC tournies would help. But lets say he's aggressive in a match, sprays huge error count & loses a match he would normally win.

Will he revert to type? He needs some good confidence building wins now to help him along. Don't get me wrong, I've always felt his point contruction & patience were underrated but there have been times he could have took a ball on, didn't & lost rally. Today, he was generally ballsy. I'm happy with that

Well, that happened in the first set!

His on-court position wasn´t the best. He was trying to hit the ball as soon as possible and was spraying misses after misses.

But he kept playing agressively and that´s the most important thing. To keep playing in the same gameplan and no to trying to go back to the same defensive posture.

And i doubt Lendl will let Murray return to its old habits.

Bravo, Andy and Nole!

Match of the year. Granted, it's only January but still, this will be the marker for the rest of the year. It was a pleasure to watch.

Muzzy I won't pick on you today. Just don't go on another six-month mental vacation.

....and....

Rafole final!!!!!

"What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape." said Roddick with a laugh. "I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I've met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I've been completely committed ... The results have shown."

even though he lost i think murray can take a lot of good things from this match. like his decision to work with lendl was a good one and that there is a good chance he will win his first slam this year.

Great match. It's nice to see Murray playing well and putting up a good fight. Very clutch play from Novak when it mattered. I hope the final is fun and dramatic.

Great match, so many twists and turns and Murray was really unlucky. Didn't really want a Djokovic/Nadal final again but I'm sure it'll be good.

Good Luck to Djokovic in the final. I hope he recovers in time. And what a dogfight Murray gave today! Murray for the USO this year c'mon!

Djokovic was lucky to survive that. 2012 is looking very good for Andy. He didn't manage to defend his final points, but that doesn't matter. Another semi-final, a nice looking scoreline and a lot of points to be won in the next month or two.

I'm looking forward to your next tournament, Andy.

As expected, the haters are out in full force. Enjoy his losses while they last. He'll win that slam soon and then you'll have nothing to hang on to.

I'm devastated for Andy.

So I'm guessing Djokovic's: I'm about to have an asthma attack and my lungs will explode-ploy worked. Andy should have been steam rolling in the third set, but let Djokovic's antics distract him. If Andy keeps losing these heartbreakers I don' think it will be good for him- he'll end up like Federer vs Nadal, unable to close out a match no matter how far ahead.

Reading some comments here , there's one thing I've learned today:

Eating that towel and Nole's girlfriend cheering from the box = won this difficult match.

You can't help but bring me up in a Murray thread? What a shocker.

I'm actually liking this result. The scoreline says it all. 5 sets. Hard 5 sets. Djokovic was lucky to survive. Surely that says a lot about Murray? Plus, a semi-final isn't bad. The US Open hardcourts are better suited to Andy, so his year is looking very good already.

This match only proves that Murray will have a great 2012, I'm sure of it. His level is continually getting better and I'm sure we have not seen the best of him this year. This was an extraordinary match played with a great deal of quality. Certainly better than the other semi anyway. Could even go down as one of (if not the) match('s) of the year. Wonderful from both men.

I said before the Nadal-Fed match that whoever the victor between Novak & Andy was they would win the tournament. I'm not really one for saying no-one has a chance in a final but, I cannot in any way see Nole losing this AO.

Great fight from Murray. It was a quality match despite what some people will say, but Nole's antics leave a sour taste.
I believed you- it's a shame no one else did. Andy will have to take more advantage and just ignore Nole's possum takes, or maybe lurer him to and peg him Lendl style.
