Interesting AO poll results from France

So, on Yahoo France (one of the biggest French language tennis sites) they have a poll on the Australian Open and Federer was chosen by more people than Djokovic, Nadal and Murray combined.

Tsonga was chosen by twice as many people as Murray as well. Results are still coming in of course but an interesting commentary on the nature of tennis perceptions in France

Similar to the Aussie Open website poll, but with no Jo-love: http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/...pre_tourn.html
Fed - 50.7%, Djok - 24.7%, Nadal - 17.5%, Murray - 4%, Other - 3%

I don't see Tsonga's chances at 10% as deluded. He definitely stands a chance when he's at his all-time highest ranking playing his best slam resultswise.

A lot of optimistic people around. Reality may result in an unpleasant outcome.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

Re: Interesting AO poll results from France

I don´t see anything surprising here. It is logical that Djokovic is biggest favorit for people who watched tennis, but is whole other thing when you have public poll for all people where everyone can vote including kids and women, that don´t even know how good Nole is, they just know the the name FEDERER and click him in poll options. THe same is here in slovak and czech internet pages, i am sick of it that Federer is leading polls everywhere. Simply when everyone can vote - from non-tennis fans majority will vote Roger, because he is well-known for yeears, in media is very popular and simply people from all corners of world have and idea who is Roger Federer, but only someone who watched tennis will tell you exactly who is Djokovic.

This is from biggest czech tennis page

Kdo získá titul na Australian Open 2012? - Who will win AO 2012
Novak Djokovič (468 / 29%)
Rafael Nadal (192 / 12%)
Roger Federer (589 / 37%)
Andy Murray (217 / 14%)
někdo jiný (133 / 8%) - somebody else

Re: Interesting AO poll results from France

These votes mean absolutely nothing. People just vote for their favourite players and obviously Federer's fanbase is much larger than that of Nadal/Djokovic.

80% of them simply vote for their favourite player.

Interesting. Seems like Czechs are quite reasonable.
