Re: Favorite Slam?

Wimbledon. No matter how hard the organizers try to fuck that great tournament and its surface up, Wimbledon is still the most special slam.

But yes, I agree in pure tennis terms, AO perhaps sees some of the best matches.

Re: Favorite Slam?

Even though the court is slow, and I prefer fast courts, I like AO best, followed by Wimbledon. AO just seems really relaxed and fun, and there's always a surprise deep run.

USO next, especially since it's in my time zone, and then RG

Yes, Wimbledon is special. But not so good to watch like AO. All that chilli hot sun, crowds from all over the world, waching late night here in Europe. That's really cool.

As for Wimbledon, there is no anything similar in tennis than Wimbledon final.

Re: Favorite Slam?

I always watch as much of the AO as I can, even though the time zone is beyond appalling for Europe. I just love its atmosphere so much, definitely my favourite.

Re: Favorite Slam?

AO would probably 1st if not for the shittiest time zone possible.
Day session is from 1am to 9am here in Germany obviously and the Night Session from 9am on. During the 1st one I have to sleep at least a bit and during the latter I'm sitting in school...
I have to say I have things about all 4 tournaments I like and then things I dislike. For AO the - is the time zone, the + the atmosphere, with the USO the + the (usual) court surface, - scheduling, and so on.
So I would rate them as almost the same, but Wimby stands above the others a bit.

Federer |Söderling |most of the Germans

I also like: Wawrinka | Tsonga | Dimitrov | Isner | Gulbis |

Warm regards: 6-3 6-0 / 6-3 6-4

Re: Favorite Slam?

Wimbledon is my favourite. It's the most traditional slam and the last still using grass courts, even though grass isn't anymore similar to what it used to be. And those things make it so prestigious for players, and because players appreciate it, I can nothing but appreciate it, too. And, in general I like British sports culture a lot. Also, RG two weeks earlier creates more interest in tennis, and right when RG ends, I start waiting for Wimby.

AO is another of my favourites. It's just in so good time, there's no other major sports events going on in late January. FIFA World Cup and European Championships usually coincide with RG and Wimby, and as a big Formula 1 fan, my biggest attention doesn't go to tennis in summer. But in January there's nothing that would take my attention from tennis. Also, the break between USO and AO is the longest between slams, so I'm already waiting for some GS tennis. And, as the AO comes so soon after the season starts, we can have some surprising results there. And, to see as many AO matches as possible, I'm going to go to bed at 8 pm Finnish time for the next two weeks and wake up after 8h of sleep at 4 am, i.e. 1 pm Oz time, meaning losing only two hours of action. That sleeping rhytmn means also that I'm not tired at lectures the following day what may be the case if I have no reason to go to bed early. Anyway, I have the impression that AO may be the 4th slam for players, the least prestigious. But I like it almost as much as Wimbledon.

RG and USO are to my understand almost equally prestigious, RG is liked due to it's special surface whereas USO's hard courts should equalize things between grass and specialist, and thus make it challenging to win as there are many title contenders. I like both those tournaments almost as much. USO may have more title contenders but RG is only clay slam. Anyway, I've probably started following tennis from RG, as AO and RG were the tournaments that used to have most free-to-air coverage here in Finland in the last decade, and RG matches were in better time on the afternoon, and school ended always before RG's first or second round, so I had time to watch it. On the other hand, of slams, I've followed USO the least. At least in the recent years it's been on pay-per-view channels, and also it's on the worst possible time, I have to go to bed before the playing sessons end, and on the other hand those sessions end too early so that I would sleep before them and not go bed after them.

Anyway, Wimbledon is also the slam I'd like to visit the most. But, again AO is 2nd. I have a good impression on AO's atmosphere, it seems to be quite relaxed. And, of course also RG and USO would be nice to visit.

Re: Favorite Slam?

Australian Open. Only thing that really sucks is the time zones and that it's the only GS I haven't been to.

Berdych | Murray | Tsonga | Monfils | Raonic | Soderling

Re: Favorite Slam?

Wimbledon. US open is just garbage these days with the organisers and no roof over stadium. French is decent but atmosphere isn't great. Wimbledon has the best atmosphere and feels the most special. Aussie open is probably 2nd best though isn't the most prestigious.

Re: Favorite Slam?

Australian Open definitely because of the atmosphere and surprises. Getting up every day in Russia at 3 A.M, watching some nice tennis is an amazing feeling!
Also i love Wimbledon because of the grass so much.

Wimbledon > Aussie > RG.

US Open is a giant pile of trash, just like everything else in that country.

Mona Barthel will win 50 slams
