Has a losing record against all of the top guys, so no one really has reason to hate him.

But he does have big wins over Fedal, so they have a reason to love him as well. Nadal fans for beating Olderer in a slam, Fedfans for roasting Rafa.

And he's an aggressive player, the majority of the people on here hate defensive players and love ballbashers.

RAFAEL NADAL

Not strange at all. Del Potro has all the attributes needed to be a popular player among tennis fans:

-wounded warrior - people always tend to side with guys with immense talent/potential who get their careers derailed by several injuries/surgeries. Also the fact that he plays through pain/injury and still manages to win matches reinforces this wounded warrior image and earns him more fans. People's empathy makes them side with JMDP in some level.

-biggest (and imo best) forehand in men's tennis - just like Gonzalez, Blake... earned many fans due to their huge forehands, Del Potro has too. His shot is even more impressive than the aforementioned ones, and people love some booming forehands. In my particular case, I became a fan of JMDP in the first place because of his forehand.

-only hope for an attacking top player post-Federer - With Nadal, Djokovic and Murray all primarily defensive baseliners/grinders, fit Del Potro is the only real hope to have a legimatimate attacking top player once Federer declines/calls it a day. Most tennis fans prefer attacking tennis so they're rooting for him here.

-gentle giant - the fans are only a reflection of his colleagues really. He's good friends with almost all the top players, especially Djokovic and Federer, everyone seems to love Delpo. The only 'relevant' player he seems to be a bit at odds with is Murray. He's a genuine nice guy and shows great sportmanship on and off the court, which is why his peers like him, and the same is truth for fans.

Of course beating Fedal to win USO also play a part, but those are the main reasons people tend to like Del Potro imo. If he can overcome his injuries and win more Slams, his popularity should only rise.

Just to compliment this, here's an interesting poll replied to by more than 1500 people on Bleacher Report.

Still, an overwhelming majority voted yes, among 1600+ voters. It does seem to suggest Del Potro is extremely popular and a lot of people's second favorite.

Melzer #51, really, pfft, says alot about MTF, I thought he was at least 51% of MTF's type of player, you know, aggressive attacking, very good-great in all aspects, instead there are a ton of weak-ass pushers and players with less talent ahead of him, sad.

The people who named Novak as their favorite mentioned JMDP 6 times as their 2nd favorite player and 2 times as their 3rd favorite (in this section Janko Tipsarevic is mentioned most often with 6 times).

The people who named Andy Murray as their favorite only mentioned JMDP once as their 2nd favorite player whilst Djokovic, Federer, Ferrer, Nadal, Nishikori and Tsonga are all mentioned 2 times.

JMDP wasn't mentioned as 3rd favorite by the people who gave Muzza 10 points so far.

The people who named Rafa as their favorite only mentioned JMDP once amongst their 2nd and 3rd favorite players.
Murray leads the section with 2nd favorite players there (was named 5 times) and Nalbandian the one with 3rd favorite players (was also named 5 times).

Re: Top 10 Favourite Active Players (8th update in #347, JMDP/ND + DF/RN are dead eve

1. Roger Federer - Best player to watch even in 'olderer' era.
2. David Ferrer - Liked him when no one paid him any attention when Nadal started dominating.
3. Richard Gasquet - Liked him since he beat Federer at Monte Carlo. Good to watch.
4. Nicholas Almagro - Liked him since I saw him on a back court at the Aus Open one year (playing Bobby Reynolds maybe? ). Bonus points for the Berdych Aus Open incident.
5. Bagdatis - Less annoying than the rest.

Naming 5 players was a stretch, 10 out of the question. I hate the rest of the ATP

Favourite ATP players: Federer, Gasquet, Ferrer.

Hottest WTA Girls: Goerges, Ivanovic, Kirilenko, Sharapova, Wozniacki.

All-Time Hottest: Anna Chakvetadze
