Australian Open darkhorses!

Anybody outside Novak, Roger or Andy have a chance? Dolgo or Milos make any noise? Interested in your thoughts, thanks.

I'm very interested in if Monfils can find his Doha SF level and keep it for 2 weeks.

Let me get this straight. You include Mugray - who is a slamless clown and a joke on the big stage and you don't include Nadal who is a 10 slam champ and a former AO champion? To answer your question, Mugray is a darkhorse for the title - if he faces Almagro in the finals

ahhahhahh this pretty much, strange to put Murray as a favorite but not Nadal. I get Murray has had fantastic form in recent times BUT he certainly has not ever shown the ability to bring it when it counts on the big stage, in moments of pressure and moments when has to fight from being down...

Mugray got taken to 3 by Kukushkin and Muller and beat green Tomic. That's good form? Wait till he runs into anyone good and he'll get sent packing from AO in tears.

hahah it's funny you are so confident of that but let me remind you he has won the tournament before. you are being unrealistic saying he has 'no chance'. he has a great chance. even if he had not won a match in all of 2011 he would have a great chance because he is one of the best players in the world and the biggest fighter of them all....

plus lastly let me remind you that this is not the WOrld Tour Finals or the US OPEN, but SLOW hard courts..... maybe you had forgotten?

Re: Australian Open darkhorses!

I don't see Rafa with a chance, he can't win this.
I think Nole/Tsonga/Murray are the favorites here. Tsonga or Andy could beat Nole in the final, and Nole must have to play really, really good to win over them.

Remember, folks, that the match vs Fed in AO11 was very close in the first 2 sets, so, don't think of Nole as an invincible warrior. Tsonga's level at the end of the year was os much bigger than him.

And Murray... He needs, he really needs to win a slam.

Tipsarevic, Ferrer, Raonic...but to go all the way up to the finals, outside top 4 maybe only Delpo at 100% or Tsonga but they can't be considered dark-horses anymore.

Re: Australian Open darkhorses!

Despite being slamless, Murray has more chances than Rafa because he's better on hard courts. Rafa is a better player, but Murray is arguably a better hard court player.

Murray still won't win though.

in general Murray is a better hard court player but not better than Nadal on hard court IN the best of 5 format, or SLAMS.

it is no coincidence that Nadal has multiple Grand Slams on hard court and just recently at last year's US OPEN (hard court) beat Murray. Nadal is definitely the better hard court player when going the distance in best of 5. Murray is a better hard court player out of the main events in tennis, which unfortunately don't really matter nearly as much in the full spectrum of things.

Murray doesn't have more chances and you merely using the fact that Murray is great at best of 3 hardcourt tournaments means nothing. how can a player who is worse at hard court in a best of 5 format have a better, or more, chances than a player who is good at them?

the mistake you make is mixing things together as though tennis is always the same. just because Murray is more consistant on hard court does NOT mean he is a better hard court player than Nadal.

quality over quanitity.

delusional of all of you to imply Nadal does not have big chances at AUstralia this year. if he wins the title how will you all feel hahah
