Re: Australian Open darkhorses!

Murray is the dark horse- he has to overcome 2/3 previous champions, but I'm hopeful he can do it. Other than him, maybe Tsonga?

it is no coincidence that Nadal has multiple Grand Slams on hard court and just recently at last year's US OPEN (hard court) beat Murray. Nadal is definitely the better hard court player when going the distance in best of 5. Murray is a better hard court player out of the main events in tennis, which unfortunately don't really matter nearly as much in the full spectrum of things.

Murray doesn't have more chances and you merely using the fact that Murray is great at best of 3 hardcourt tournaments means nothing. how can a player who is worse at hard court in a best of 5 format have a better, or more, chances than a player who is good at them?

the mistake you make is mixing things together as though tennis is always the same. just because Murray is more consistant on hard court does NOT mean he is a better hard court player than Nadal.

quality over quanitity.
It seems that your tardism has somehow blocked your memory and you are unable to remember that Murray has beaten Mugdal at HC slams.

Re: Australian Open darkhorses!

hell, since we are all going off the rails, i'll put my boy dolgopolov in there, lol....if fed doesnt win, then either joker, dolgopolov, or Tsonga will win...

But seriously, i'm not counting Rafa out....that man is a beast and always seem to bounce back...history has proven that.....

So barring that, Rafa...cant believe i am saying that as I am SO not a fan...but his desire to win and his toughness, never to be counted out.

I think Nole/Tsonga/Murray are the favorites here. Tsonga or Andy could beat Nole in the final, and Nole must have to play really, really good to win over them.

Remember, folks, that the match vs Fed in AO11 was very close in the first 2 sets, so, don't think of Nole as an invincible warrior. Tsonga's level at the end of the year was os much bigger than him.

And Murray... He needs, he really needs to win a slam.

Wait for the draw to make the predictions that will fail miserably as always.

Re: Australian Open darkhorses!

If we are talking about title than only darkhorse is i think Tsonga. Rafa, Andy and Roger are co-favortes of AO after Nole - who is by far biggest favorit and i would be surprised if he didn´t win this. And together with Tsonga they are the only 5 players i think can win, nobody else can do it. But if you mean darkhorses in term of making good run in AO- QF-SF than i would say Berdych, Dolgopolov, Raonic, Tomic, Baghdatis, Monfils can make some upset. I didn´t mentioned guys like Ferrer or Delpo, i think they will only make it as far as their draw can get them- i mean Ferrer with luck will make his QF-part and loose in QF to somebody better. And Delpo´s form still nothing special won´t make further than 4R, maybe QF with good draw. Tipsy or Almagro, maximum 4R thanks to draw. Fish has his own QF-part so we will see if he can hold his posiition in 4R against somebody from 9-12th.

a close match in the states and at Australia when Nadal was clearly injury affected??

there is no doubt that Nadal plays better in hard court grand slams than Murray, it's silly to suggest otherwise regardless of the H2H
