Oldest playing male?

There was talk of Kimiko in another thread so I am just wondering who is the oldest playing male of recent times? or who is the oldest now and I know doubles can have players who are into their 40's.

I know Fabrice was on the good side of 40 just before he retired. but was/is their someone older?

Re: Oldest playing male?

Muster is 44 and still on the challenger circuit. Dick Norman and Mark Knowles both play on the doubles tour at the age of 40. There's probably more...

By the way Fabrice Santoro was 37 when he retired.

I support Andy Murray!

Re: Oldest playing male?

If Im not wrong: Ken Rosewall played until he has 45 years old. Connors 44. Pancho Gonzalez 44. Muster 43. Not sure about doubles but I guess there might be a name hitting the 45.

Re: Oldest playing male?

The age of tennis players ending their careers will end up younger and younger as time goes on. This is mainly due to the fact that the competition is better and fields are stronger. You no longer see 35+ year old clowns making slam finals and winning 100+ titles as the case was in the 60's and 70's. It really puts things into perspective how much tennis has improved since then and how much better guys of today are. Someone like Connors today would have Giraldo career most likely.

Re: Oldest playing male?

Yes, it's very hard to make long careen nowadays, we'll see shorter and shorter careens in near future... Courts are so slow and players at the top have to give everything out of their body resulting too many problems with their body because seasons are so damn long too... That's why "hopeless moonballers" like Nadal playing way too long points and starting their ATPgames early might well be out of courts before reaching their 30s and others sooner than they would have before been too.
