Auckland R1 - Falla d. [7] Young 4-6 6-3 6-3

Donald Young went out in the first round of the Heineken Open in Auckland on Monday after a three set loss to Columbian Alejandro Falla. Falla, ranked 40 places below Young, came back after having lost the first set to eventually emerge victorious in a 4-6 6-3 6-3 win.

Falla, who personally has my support because his surname sounds like "Fire", will next face the winner of the first round match between Albert Montañés and Potito Starace for a place in the quarter finals.

As for Young, his focus will now turn to next week's Australian Open, where he'll be looking to improve on his performance last year where he reached the 2nd round before losing in straight sets to Marin Cilic.

Falla in spanish means n. failure or v. fail. This time he didn't fail

Re: Auckland R1 - Falla d. [7] Young 4-6 6-3 6-3

I was there, it was a fun match to watch live. Don was attacking the net in set 1 and then after that seemed to abandon that strategy. Linecalling in Auckland is a little dodgy sometimes. Don was getting a ton of footfaults (I've never seen so many in one match ), and a couple of times it seemed they forgot to call the lines altogether and the umpire had to step in.

Fun match to watch though, and I was rooting for Alej .
