Brisbane QF: (2) Simon def. Giraldo 7-6(2) 6-4

Entertaining match (for me anyway). Gilles definitely could have benefited from coming out a little more aggressive at the start of the match, but solid, consistent play was enough to allow Santiago to slowly implode.

Santi couldn't take advantage of his break in the first set, but I loved the game at 3-4* in the second to get back on serve. Woodbridge is right about him needing to move forward more. It's not enough simply trying to hit through someone like Simon.

Simon not played his best tennis today and gave many chances for Giraldo but Giraldo is from Colombia.

Who is Colombia for the tennis? This result is one form to give this answer.

gilles played 2 great points to win in the end. it was up and down and giraldo must be hard to get a read on because he just plays some very odd shots at odd times.

semi final 1st tournament of the year, happy but would love him to make the final.

I feel like this is a rare match up where both of their styles work to the advantage of the other. Simon too consistent in the end, he really doesn't give much away.

If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.

Considering they played some really long rallies, especially backhand to backhand, there was more pace on the ball than usual from Simon. Maybe because Giraldo can sometimes be a riverboat gambler with his shots.

Love the Giraldo serve out wide on the deuce side. It's a great shot.

Gilles is playing well, and back to reclaim the Bulge King crown in red shorts.

Good tournament for Santi. First title is certainly coming in early clay season.

Nice try Santi

Santi is actually starting to play better now. It's not a bad result at all considering his opponent. Simon is a very good player. He can be proud of himself!
