I would say after Wimbledon or Montreal, but question is who will replace him. It is funny because anyone of trio Nadal, Federer, Murray is able to do that.

I would personally prefer Federer, but Nadal has got a shot if he pump up himself and Murray has chance only if all three others somehow fail.

Federer will crush them all. Actually he doesn't even need to be that good, just consistent results everywhere with a grand slam final and he'll get the number 1 place after wimbledon if nobody wins more than one slam.
But anyway we all know who's winning wimbledon this year:cool:

After Rome, given his current form however.

After Miami. Then gain it back for a few weeks after MC and lose it again after Rome. Then there is no winning back.

It's pretty interesting that Federer got a golden opportunity to retake #1 after Wimbledon or later. His strong season finish winning Basel, Paris and WTF is a sweet 3000 points in total. Meanwhile Nadal and Djokovic didn't gain much at all in that stretch and will now defend a ton of points the coming months.

Federer won't defend nearly as much until RG where he ofc defends the final spot. But as he crashed out in QF in Wimby that is where he should be able to overtake Djokovic/Nadal

It's definitely gonna be tricky for Djokovic to hold on to #1 because he ended the year so poorly. Had he only gained 500 more points or so I'd give him a bigger chance. Now he might lose it after Wimbledon/USO

What are you talking about. The first tournament where actually Fed has less points to defend than Nadal are IW and Miami. It is really a very small difference SFs for Fed and Fs for Nadal. Fed will most probably not play MC so his chances are not looking any good unless he wins every other tournament until Wimbledon. I don't think you should count Fed as any contender for N1 at this point. At least not before he wins a major tournament next year.

Considering Federer has almost no chance of overtaking him and Murray still has to prove himself in a Slam first, it will depend a lot on how both Djokovic and Rafa play next year, after wimbledon would be the best guess.

After Wimby but before us open most likely (if not after the U.S. open). I see Fed getting it for a while. Djokovic will regain it however by years end.

Re: When will Djokovic lose the number 1 position next year?

i wholeheartedly wish federer to get this one more week he needs for the record, that he didn't utilize when he had the biggest chance due to own negligence

though we need to remember fed got these points when djokovic and rafa were, like, non-existent on tour

i'm sure they come back strong with the start of the season plus it's not like other players wouldn't make upsets against him as soon as he falls into his fave "im a lazy god" mood we saw when he was losing to, for instance, montanes

it's possible for him, but it's not only in his hands now

i remember last year after fed also won wtf people also predicted him regaining everything, and it was not quite the case

In a way it's good that he did not get the record. Gives him more motivation. That's not to say he will get to number one (although I think he will for a month or two) but at least he should be more motivated with that tasty record within site.

Re: When will Djokovic lose the number 1 position next year?

Around RG and Wimbledon time, as usual.

In 08, Rafa basically took over #1 after winning Wimbledon.
In 09, Fed took back #1 after winning Wimbledon.
In 10, Rafa took it back after winning RG.
In 11, Djokovic took it after winning Wimbledon

Re: When will Djokovic lose the number 1 position next year?

I don't think Djokovic will lose it.
He can pick up points at any tournament.

On the other hand, there's a lot of pressure in staying at #1 so Djokovic still has to show he can handle that mental challenge.

Re: When will Djokovic lose the number 1 position next year?

I am not sure if he will loose it, maybe for few weeks, but i believe he will be year end No.1. But during season either Rafa or Roger have chance to overtake him for a while. Very important will be AO for everyone. Nole is defending 2000 points, Roger only 720 and Rafa 360. So if either Roger or Rafa can win this it will be interresting first half of year, if Nole defend it- he will be confident and can be dominating first half of season- don´t think he will win everything like last year, but can win or make F at IW-Miami than win some clay Master, make another F-SF there and he will have enough points to be No. 1. Roger i think is not consistent enough to overtake him, i think he can do it only if both Nole and Rafa will do much worse than this season durigh first half of the 2012. I can imagine both Rafa and Roger overtake Nole after Wimbledon- both must have great 1st half of season, Nole won´t defend every title, the question is how much of points he will defend, he is capable enough in 1st half of season to make W, F, SF everywhere so the question is if Rafa or Roger will do better with more titles and finals at slams and Masters.
