Fixed for you.
No one can stop Destiny's Childe Murray from winning his first GS, and he will do it in style on Wimbledon CC.
Tio Toni will be spotted !BAMO!ing in the stands.

That ought to be a mere delay. He has practically nothing to defend from Toronto and Cincinnatti, whereas Djokovic defends a W and an F. Hard to se Djokovic managing to keep No. 1 consecutively. But he might still bounce back when the time comes for Federer to defend Basel, PAris and London - unless Federer wins US Open.

Re: Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the

If Fed wins on Sunday, then he overtakes Novak by 75 ranking points as the new World #1.

If he loses on Sunday, then he remains #2, but only trails Djokovic by 625 points.

Whatever happens, the win today made things extremely interesting. Federer and Djokovic can both gain at the Olympics (which could rebalance the rankings again depending on the winner on Sunday), Federer can gain at Canada & Cincy, Federer can gain at US Open, and Federer and Djokovic can both gain in the Asian swing. So potentially the #1 ranking could change hands three or four more times in the coming months.

thing is i seen the calender today

Olympics, Toronto and Cinci are all played in 3 weeks back too back

Fed will never play Toronto at the very least

i thought Fed would be a bit closer than 600 points damnit, more work to be done if he loses this final.

Never thought Federer would have a shot at #1 again. At his age, just coming this close is remarkable. It's not like Agassi's run in his 30s where there was a real lack of top players either. Pretty incredible.

Re: Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the

I wrote it in the "ATP ranking thread" but maybe I should write it here :

For those who would wonder the situation for the world number 1, in next months, and in case Fed loses the final on sunday, the chances would still be high for Fed to be number 1 later ... and they are also high for Nadal the competition will probably be high for the number 1 until the end of the year.

here are the ranking points when you take off the points from last year :

after Wimbledon if Fed loses Wimbledon final against Murray (if he wins add 800 points to Fed and also after next tournaments):
Djokovic 11000
Federer 10275
Nadal 8905

(please note that the Olympics give 750 points but they are an optional tournament, which means Fed could only replace his 90 points from Doha with a 750 points win, then he could not be number 1 after the Olympics if he loses Wimbledon final)

after Canada open (won by Djokovic last year then he would drop 1000 points) :
Federer 10185
Djokovic 10000
Nadal 8895

... which means Fed would be number 1 if he doesn't do worse than Djokovic in the Olympics+Canada open

after Cinci (Djokovic was finalist and will lose 600 points ... which is even more favourable to Fed) :
Federer 10005
Djokovic 9400
Nadal 8715

after the US Open (Djokovic will have at least 1885 points to take back to Fed until then !!) :
Federer 9285
Nadal 7515
Djokovic 7400

after Shanghai :
Federer 9270
Djokovic 7400
Nadal 6995

By the way, here's the Race (situation for the end of year-rankings) :
Djokovic AND Nadal 6840
Federer 6295
(Murray 3800 if you want to know)

useless old guy

Anyway i hope it happens on Sunday. Even if not, there are so many chances up to USO that i doubt Fed will miss them all.

Fan list: Cilic, Federer, Coric

P.S. Watch out for Donna Vekic and Borna Coric, 2020. Hopman cup winners. - posted in 2011, let's see if it happens

Re: Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the

I think at this moment Roger´s chances are about 90% and higher, i see him in Wimby F as 50-50 match vs Murray, but if he won´t win Wimbledon, he will have opportunity to add a lot of points at Olympics, Canada, Cinci and USO, i mean the way he is playing on grass best of 3 he will be favorite vs Nole and Rafa, so maybe he will be biggest favorit for Olympics right now, than Canada-Cinci he is defending almost nothing there, while Nole is defending there almost everything, and Roger´s No.2 in rankings is very helpfull for those HC events, because Nole can´t stop him in SF, so Roger should i believe make at least 1 F at Canada, Cinci- probably at Cinci where his always was succesfull and will have more time to recover and to play better on HC after Olympics.

Than USO - the same with ranking like before, really helpfull for him i believe he will be No.2 seeded so he has big chance to make F there, no Djokovic in SF -what can mean that both defends their points, if Nole beats him in SF and wins, but with Roger as No.2 seeded even if Nole beats him in F, still Roger will add points for F-SF difference.

I really can´t see what must happen that healthy Roger won´t be No.1 in time period Wimbledon-after USO.

I am completely uninterested in this record, I just want Federer to win Wimbledon and end the year as nr1.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.
